Disable group by in Downloads folder (Windows 10 1903)

Hi, since I updated to the new Windows 1903 version the files in some folders like "Downloads" are always grouped by the date. I was able to disable this in the File Explorer itself by choosing "Group by = none". But in all kind of "Save as" dialogs from any application the group by date still appears and in those special explorer windows there is no option to disable file grouping in them. So how can I disable this globally?

Hi Chap Sistine,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

The Group by option in normal folders and in Save as window are different, so if you change the Group by to type in Downloads folder, it will not change in Save as window. Then, if you change the Group by in Save as window, it will not change in normal folders.

You can refer the below example.

Change the Group by as size in Downloads folder - Change the Group by as size in Save as window.

Change the Group by as type in Downloads folder - (Check) Group by as size in Save as window (it will not change until you right-click in Save as window and change it to type or anything else).

Also, the Group by option is specific to folders and once you change Group by for a particular folder, the changes will not be applied to all the folders. You need to change the Group by for every folder by opening that particular folder > Press the Alt and V > Click on G > Select the Group by settings or click on Choose columns for more options.

So, once you change the Group by in Save as window, it will remain the same regardless of whichever application you open the Save as window from.

    If you copy & paste the following command into a PowerShell console, does it return 5000?

    ((gp "HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU").Nodeslots).count

    I do not drink coffee but i've clicked on GroupBy->None and SortBy->None 20 000 times. Check the video. Maybe you can understand that microsoft is now full of second rate programmers paid with 2000$ - wage for which i have never worked even as a graduate (yes, computer science; a developer in the US earning 2k$ working for a market leader - YES, microsoft is on its way to becoming cancer for both users and developers - that is the direction they are heading in in my opinion as a developer). Maybe rather then just taking into account that i have ranted you could maybe assume people don;t rant for no reason and maybe there is a problem. Apply settings to all folders just resets it and here's a video to proove it - although more then a few tens of thousands of users reported this on various sites and there's proof that it doesn't work as intended.     And in conclussion: i am sooooo sooooo amazingly sorry i had to "MAKE" you reply voluntarily on a public forum with my concern that during my work I HAVE TO EVERY SINGLE TIME TAKE ACTIONS THAT ARE UNNECESSARY. Sorry to have inconvenienced you. I had no ideea this forum revolves around your egotism.... Maybe you can direct me to the PROPER MICROSOFT forum where i can actually rant at them about their stupid OS decision making....

    P.S. that is a fresh install with latest image from microsoft. Problem can easily be reproduced. Happens on both my work and home desktop, my laptop, my tablet (in the video) and IN VIRTUAL MACHINES ALSO.

    PPS if i remove sort and group by without applying to all folders upon reopening settings are reset

    Yes there is a solution.

    The sheer number of annoyed users who complain about the obtrusive UI philosophy should make somebody at M$ think at last, though.

    Why the heck must I live with predefined crappy special folder names and also specific settings for each of them?

    I want a detailed view with extension shown for each and everything in a single system wide setting.

    If I occasionally want another view I'd change it specifically.
