Intel Optane(tm) Memory Pinning: Unable to Load DLL

Whenever I open Windows Explorer of select  a file in Explorer, I get the following error message:

Intel Optane(tm) Memory Pinning

Unable to load DLL

'iaStorAfsServiceApi.dll': The specified module could not be found.

(Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007001

Windows Explorer

I am running Windows 10. This only started after the last Windows 10 Update.

I have a DELL Laptop

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750 CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.21

This is a very annoying message.

Can anyone assist?

Hi Andrew

There does seem to be a conflict between the recent update and Intel Optane

Open the old Control Panel, go to Programs and Features

You should see a specific Intel Optane Software Component. Uninstall the Optane software

Restart your PC

In maybe a months time, go to the support page for your system on the Dell website, then download and install Intel Optane, they should have resolved this bug at that time . . .

    I was able to correct the problem by selecting Intel Optane Pinning Explorer Extensions and performing a repair. Problem solved.

    ummm try running this: 

    chkdsk C: /F /R and performa restart.  If this does work, maybe we should try killing the explorer.exe process and then try running the repair.  A quick outline of this step would be to launch the task manager, click More Details (at the bottom) > click File > Run New Task > in the run box type in without the qoutes "taskkill /im explorer.exe /F" > then run another "Run New Task" > type in the "appwiz.cpl" > find the intel optane and right click it and run the repair.  Hopefully that will do the trick > if it does the run another "Run  New Task" and type in "explorer.exe and this should bring back your desktop.

    Thanks! Sounds like a good temporary solution, until Intel has released an update.

    I was checking the Intel website, but there is no new release yet. I will post an update in this topic once there is. Should be helpful for many of us.

    Go to 'Programs and Features' within the Control Panel, Click on 'Intel Optane Pinning Explorer Extensions' and select 'Repair'. Takes a few seconds and job done. Close and reopen Explorer if required and the error message will have stopped.
