Intel Optane(tm) Memory Pinning: Unable to Load DLL

Whenever I open Windows Explorer of select  a file in Explorer, I get the following error message:

Intel Optane(tm) Memory Pinning

Unable to load DLL

'iaStorAfsServiceApi.dll': The specified module could not be found.

(Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007001

Windows Explorer

I am running Windows 10. This only started after the last Windows 10 Update.

I have a DELL Laptop

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750 CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.21

This is a very annoying message.

Can anyone assist?

Hi Andrew

There does seem to be a conflict between the recent update and Intel Optane

Open the old Control Panel, go to Programs and Features

You should see a specific Intel Optane Software Component. Uninstall the Optane software

Restart your PC

In maybe a months time, go to the support page for your system on the Dell website, then download and install Intel Optane, they should have resolved this bug at that time . . .

    I notice this reply was posted in Aug 2019.  It is now April, 2020 and I am getting this message now.  Have never seen it pop up until today.  And I use my files every single day, as i am an Independent Pampered Chef consultant and store all of my photos and files there.  

    Is there still a conflict with the updates???

    I went to Intel's site after this Intel Optane(tm) Memory Pinning

    Unable to load DLL error occurred in the Windows 10 2004 update. Here's what it said:

    "How to fix it:

    This issue can be resolved by doing the following:

    First, refresh the current driver package installed by repairing the Intel® Optane™ memory pinning extensions:

        Open Programs and Features (Press Windows key  + r), type ‘appwiz.cpl’ and click OK.

        Locate and highlight Intel Optane Pinning Explorer Extensions.

        Click Repair."

    I copied and pasted the appwiz.cpl into run box, hit enter. Then scrolled down to Intel Optane Pinning Explorer Extensions, highlighted it, right clicked, selected Repair. I rebooted, did the same things in File Explorer that triggered the error after reboot. No error. It appears you may not need to wait a month after uninstalling. Here's the link:

    Used Every Version of Windows since the week Windows 3.1 came out for sale commercially in my area. Vista was a blooming disaster on a Dell Laptop purchased for my wife that came with it. Formatted Hard Drive & installed XP to get laptop working well. XP, 7 & 10 have been the best experiences. 3.1 was a much improvement to DOS for productivity, not so much for gaming initially. 😁

    Try this BEFORE you uninstall anything as many other reviews are stating that you must uninstall Intel Optane first.

    This super easy fix worked for me and is posted in the Intel website.

    On WIN 10 GO TO:

    1. SETTINGS
    2. APPS and FEATURES
    3. Intel Optane Pining Explorer Extension
    4. Click
    5. Click MODIFY !! DO NOT click uninstall.

    While you click modify, pay attention cause IF YOU SEE A FLICKERING, that means it worked! What it does is adding the "missing link".

    This worked for me, hope it works for you all.

    Very easy:

    GO TO SETTINGS; APPS  and FEATURES; scroll down till you get to INTEL OPTANE PINNING PINNING EXPLORER EXTENSION; CLICK; THEN CLICK ON MODIFY!! Do NOT click UNINSTALL !

    This worked for me!
