Update to Windows 10 1903 requires updated Intel Rapid Storage Technologies

After receiving the notification, I updated my Dell Inspiron 5000 series with an update from Dell.  This update installed successfully as indicated:

However, the file that is blocking the Windows update, iasota.sys, is the old version that was present before I updated RST (note that other iasot*.sys files are newer):

Any idea on what can be done to workaround the problem?

Is the iaStorA.sys file obsolete and no longer needed now that the RST driver has been updated?  If yes, should I simply rename the file to iaStorA.old and attempt to update Windows again?

Do newer versions of Intel RST still use the older iaStorA.sys file resulting in the Windows Setup not recognizing that a compatible version of RST has been installed?  If yes, then do I have to wait for Microsoft to modify the Setup program so that it assesses RST compatibility by looking at something other than the iaStorA.sys version (e.g., the iaStorAC.sys version, which is the file that serves as the driver for the I/O SATA AHCI Controller?

    I did rename the three that were not busy. It would not allow me to Rename iaStorAC.sys.

    It was in use by the system. It was started as shown in the screen capture image

    I just added another screen capture of Windows Explorer pointing to the four

    iaStor*.sys files in the gallery. I renamed the three back to .sys instead of .old because it failed.

    The three I was able to rename were .old when I attempted to run the 1903 Update.

    The driver properties for Standard AHCI SATA Controller show it's using storahci.sys as the driver

    if I understand correctly.

    That's what I am trying to get you to understand.  My post wasn't meant to be snarky, just a simple question.  For some reason, it seems Intel stopped updating that particular driver some time ago, possibly two years.  The latest version I show is from late 2017. 

    The message, and it was a message, from Microsoft was specifically meant for that one driver.  The iastorac and iastoravc and possibly iastorv are all replaced with a new install of the IRST but the iastora is not.

    And yes, the storahci.sys driver is the Windows version and I have one system which is still running that and will not update back to an iastorxx.sys version.

    I do not have a file named iastora.sys file on my system. I do have a iastorac.sys.

    If you look at the gallery images I posted the properties for the AHCI SATA controller.

    It shows a different driver is being used.

    I already tried the Update Driver and nothing showed up.

     I uninstalled the RST software. I have no idea why I installed it in the first place.

    Years ago I knew nothing about SATA. I read setting RAID in the BIOS does the same thing as AHCI

    but it requires a user to do RAID setup to get RAID.

    I never used RAID. The system seems to work fine without RST installed.

    I ran the Intel Driver Assist and it suggests an older driver so I am installing it now.

    I wouldn't worry about not being able to rename iastorac.sys.

    The SATA driver that your system is using after uninstalling RST is different from the one that was being used after I uninstalled RST.  It is also a very old driver (dated 2006), which is probably why you are getting the message that it is not compatible with Windows 10.

    I suggest you see if there is a more recent driver for your SATA.  In Device Manager, right click on the SATA Controller, select "update driver" and let Windows search for a more up-to-date driver.  If a updated driver is found and installed, try again to install Build 1903.

    If the driver cannot be updated in this way, then go to https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html and install the version of RST that Intel determines is the correct one for your system.  After installing and restarting, then check your SATA driver; it should be different from the one you have now and, if your computer uses the same one as mine, it will be iastorac.sys.  As long as the driver is not iastora.sys, then you can rename the iastora.sys file and install the 1903 update as described in Ready_Rover's August 1 post earlier in this string (also see my reply to Ready_Rover immediately following his/her post).
