Bump. More than just HP printers were effected for us- Zebra, Star, Kyocera, and Canon. This was pre-"fix" though. Hesitant to try the fix. I'd rather avoid these updates forever..

The Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1903 KB4517211 is causing the printer spooler service to stop and the installed printer is no longer recognized. It is an HP Officejet Pro 8210 printer. When I go into services.msc I can start the spooler and my printer then reappears but as soon as I try to print the spooler service stops. If I uninstall update KB4517211, my printer again works.
Secondary Concern: I have temporarily halted windows updates to avoid KB4517211 from again downloading. How to I stop this update from installing permanently since I will have to resume updates at some juncture.

2019-10-07T14:23:20+00:00 This needs to be escalated and solved ASAP the updates release on 10-4 have blown just about every customer I have with a HP laser out of the water. We are in the process of uninstalling and disabling windows updates on ALL OUR CUSTOMERS.

2019-10-06T14:58:52+00:00 Using the HP Universal Driver 6.8 is my personal workaround :-). it is a v3-driver, not a v4, as the actual drivers use to be, and it works very well for my HP Officejet Pro 8740. Unfortunately, I cannot use my semi-portable HP Deskjet 3720 with the universal driver.
Having changed the printer Driver in Printer Properties to universal driver 6.8 and changed the printers name to HP 8740 UPD, I can use my HP8740 practically normally.
I have set up my Surface Pro 6 to the very beginning, only installed Windows 10, newest version to kb4524147 (18362.388) and newest Office 365 Version (and Acronis True Image 2020 to easily build an Image). Installed printer via Windows 10, Settings, Devices, Printers and Scanners. NO PRINTING.
Installed newest HP Officejet Pro 8740-driver (firmware is newest): NO PRINTING.
So I have to give up for the moment using the workaround with universal driver.
I wait for a better idea!

2019-10-06T14:40:48+00:00 I've had the same problem when trying to print out a report tonight. Also, I uninstalled then reinstalled my HP Officejet Pro 8210 printer multiple times.
While it seems the problem dates back to KB4522016, I suspect it may go back to the September Patch Tuesday or earlier if reports of those not installing 4522016 are experiencing print issues.
Have you installed the latest firmware update for your printer? Looks like they released firmware version 001.1937C on 9/19/19. If you haven't yet, I would do that first.
Also, which driver set have you installed? Have you tried the HP Universal Driver PCL6 (currently version 6.8.0.24296)?
