Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

I rarely set my pictures to "live" format. When I have in the past, the Photos App had no trouble importing my pictures back then.

This did not work for me . (iPhone XR). I have found that some of the replies I've read from this thread work partially and sporatically: e.g., freezes, or  sometimes recognizes x number of photos and then freezes. The bottom line is MICROSOFT NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM! IT USED TO WORK FINE!  Did anyone open a ticket with Microsoft about this problem?

this finally worked on my iPhone x ios version  3.5 and the Windows 10 Version 2004 (OS Build 19631.1)

The key I think was the " Settings -> Camera => Formats and change the Camera Capture setting to Most Compatible" and then possibly the windows update. The photos app did crash once as I had over 8K images but I did it again and it finally worked after years of it not.

I wanted to provide an alternative for using the Photos app in Windows 10 as I also have seen this freezing up and a real pain.

A friend of mine needed to be able to have an easy way for doing the import of pictures from his iPhone and what a mess I had with the new Photos app. I tried to find others ways to do the import and stumpled over the "old" Import Photos and Videos option you had in Windows 7. This can be enabled on Windows 10 as well and works really good for this purpose.

Am aware that this do not solve the issue with the Windows 10 Photos app and I really do hope that Microsoft will get it sorted as many people struggle with it.

All in all if you want to enable the good old option from Windows 7 and use that as an alternative just follow this guide.

Hope this may help some of you out there also struggling :)
