Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems
Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

2020-05-11T06:16:02+00:00 You could try RESET in Windows
Settings -> Apps -> MS Photos -> Advanced options -> Reset
Once done, plug in phone, Photo App launches, if photos do not start loading click Try again (you might have to do it a few times), see if does not freeze.
If that does not work then you could restart Apple Mobile Device Service on Windows
Go toRun window by clicking Windows Key + R.
Type services.msc in the Run window and hit OK to open the Services Manager.
Search for Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) from the list menu of the page.
Right Click on AMDS and click on Properties from the drop-down menu.
In the Properties window, go to the option Startup type and select Automatic from the drop-down menu.
Under Service status, hit the Stop button and click on OK. Exit that window.
After the service is stopped, once again Right click on Apple Mobile Device Service and click on Start option from the drop-down menu, click OK and exit window and Services.
Now try your iPhone and see if that has resolved your problem.

2020-05-11T11:49:08+00:00 I am having the same problem. I am running Windows 10 1909 18363.815 with Photos version 2020.19111.24110.0 and I lock up either at the looking for new photos and video. Or, I lock up when all the pictures on my phone appear and I click on import since last update. I've tried repairing and resetting in settings to no avail and the uninstall is greyed out. The problem is not my iPhone, but in the Photos app itself. It has been this way for the last three app updates. It used to be that Microsoft was the gold standard when releasing software. Now it seems that they can not release anything that works. I am so frustrated that my next purchase will be a Mac. To give you an idea, I cut my teeth on the Macintosh 512k then switched to MS Dos because of the capabilities available and the stable platform that Microsoft used to offer. Now it's the other way around and Mac is the more stable system.

2020-05-12T13:35:06+00:00 I have found that by uploading the pictures in batches, rather than the whole amount at once, I have been able to upload my images, I know this isn't a fix, but it has enabled me to get around the MS photo glitch.

2020-05-13T03:49:48+00:00 Come on Microsoft - this issue cannot be ignored any longer! I have seen it on many of my own as well as many of my clients computers & it hasn't been resolved by any of the suggested 'fixes' either you or anyone on these forums have suggested. You need to investigate this major bug because it makes the app unusable so please don't pretend it's not happening just because of CoViD-19 - this will lose you customers to Apple & damage your reputation.
