Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

On reading your solution I reset the Windows Photos app and after two tries all the photos appeared, wow what a relief! Downloaded the latest and that was it.

As for the iPhone, I did not need to change any of the settings.

Until MS fixes the problem it appears that Reset will have to be applied before downloading new photos.

Same thing happens with a Canon 7D Camera.

Yep, not just a phone import issue. I reset my whole laptop to try and deal with this issue. Still freezes on the import box. This is with an SD card import.

I am really confused with all this.  I have a Samsung A40 and happily downloaded all my photos by USB until my Laptop was repaired and the latest Windows 10 downloaded onto the new hard drive.  Great to have my laptop restored but just want the ease of downloading my photos back again!    I am not a tech person by any stretch and have downloaded so many apps trying to devise a way but none work.  And frustrating you can't download from Google Photos directly.

So we have 30 pages of users with the same issue and no fix? How can such a basic feature of Windows be so broken?
