Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

I was having the same problem as everyone else - where Photos would freeze as they were looking for new photos on my phone.

This solution kind of worked for me!

I first went to the Settings on my iPhone > Photos > Transfer to Mac or PC > Click "Keep Originals". I then restarted my iPhone.

Next, I plugged my iPhone into the computer, Photos pops up automatically. I let the Photos app to try to search for pictures/videos. Instead of closing it down when it froze, I then went into my File Explorer, clicked my "Apple iPhone" under "This PC", and right clicked to choose "Import Pictures and Videos".

If I didn't let Photos try to find the photos on my phone first, when I went to File Explorer and clicked "Import Pictures and Videos", it said there were no photos on my iPhone.... which is a joke, I have like 4000.

Finally the pictures and videos began to import onto the computer, albeit very slowly.

The most complicated way to get pictures on my computer.

    Come on, Microsoft, be better.

Well... Its a work around... So full credit and good job for that.

How "viable" is another story.  It drops all the file naming conventions.

Photos brings them in as "IMG_3364.jpg"

Import bring them in as "001.jpg" using the current count of files to bring in.  So every new import starts at 1 again.

The two import systems on the same computer don't use the same naming convention?  I'd be fired if my coding did that ****.

Then I dragged the imports to the same "Camera Roll / 2020-04" month folder that Photos had been using.  Photos saw the new files and sorted by date at least.

Its better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick - but not by much.

I have tried every fix in here and nothing.  I was able to import all of my photos from Windows explorer - right clicking on Iphone.  This is not the solution I want, I want to be able to plug my Iphone in every so often and have only new photos get imported.  I don't want to have to go to icloud to download new photos, I don't want to have to see where I stopped last time.  This is insanity.  It used to work perfect, now it is garbage.  This post has 28 pages, and so far nothing....... frustrating indeed.

On your iPhone go to settings then to camera then to format and change the setting to Most compatible it worked for me it is only downloading Pictures that have not been downloaded before you may have to Hit the cancel button before it gets to the end of your pictures let me know if that works for you
