Yes - I have tried all suggestions so far mentioned right up to this post - every one of them, and even gone back after updating Windows and IOS and tried them again. It's great that file import worked for you at least and some others here.
I just remembered, I had to switch off the automatic conversion feature in my phone, see below from Apple's website.
You can change this import behavior in iOS 11 or later. Go to Settings > Photos. In the TRANSFER TO MAC OR PC section, tap Keep Originals to prevent the media from being converted to JPEG or H.264 when importing.
Once imported to my PC, I then switched on the automatic feature again (in case it is required for other devices). It seems like HEIF/HEVC is the new upcoming standard to replace JPEG. Yes, all my pictures/videos are saved as HEIF/HEVC format, which I am
still able to view within windows.
