Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

    After clicking the import photos button and when it scans your photos,  wait for the number that freezes (mine was 9041) and when it reaches that number you have 1-2 seconds to press the cancel button. If you can catch the cancel button before it becomes un-clickable immediately do a ctrl-alt-del and open task manager. 

    That way you can bypass the freezing part.

    Many replies ago, I posted that I was convinced that it was a problem with Microsoft not understanding the new HEIC images. I thought I had fixed it - it ran through my 7,500 photos, but then selected to load them all, so I'm going to mess with that for a while. It definitely is a MS problem caused by HEIC\HEIF formats.

    • Click on the [Get] button
    • This takes you to the Microsoft Store -

    • The first time, the [Launch] button will read [Install] I think
    • Whatever, click on the button. This will download the HEIF/HEIC codecs which Microsoft decided not to supply via Windows Update or any other mechanism
    • Click [Launch] maybe?
    • Load the Photos app and see what happens

    You'r wrong. This has nothing do do with Apple. I'm having the issue with Android devices, i never bough any apple product so its clearly a windows software problem. This must the the biggest Joke on Windows in the latest years. I will write an article about this soon. I cant believe whats happening here. Did every good programmer left Microsoft and they'r left with their NT kernel unable to fix that or what? Cringe

    The problem is definitely about windows. The app also freezes when I try to import photos and videos from a regular USB stick.

    I am also having the exact same problem.  Why isn't anyone at Microsoft fixing this?  This is very frustrating.
