Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

2020-01-15T22:49:25+00:00 I went ahead and tried everything including the workarounds and the Photos app still freezes on photo discovery. Nothing I do fixes it including resetting and repairing the app. I have the latest build of Windows 10 and my iPhone is fully updated.
In the end, I still have to use Windows Explorer, find my phone in the list, navigate to DCIM and download manually.
I dislike this method because it doesn't keep your image revisions (the AAE files). But, hey, at least I get to offline my phone to restore 60GB of memory every once and a while (I take a lot of photos and video for social media).

Guess this is what happens when WindowsX is free...
