Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

I don't get an "Import Pictures and Videos" option when I right click on USB Drive (F:) (which is all it displays when my camera is plugged in). The only usable option is Open Autoplay, which runs Photos and freezes like always.

This WORKED for me and my iphone 6s. Go to "This PC", RIGHT click on the iPhone icon and select "Import Pictures and Videos". If you have slowmo/timelapse videos it will give you an error for each video, just select to skip each same error and you should be good. I copied 4700 + something pictures and videos from almost 6000 files. I hope this helps

This didn't work for me, second time round when clicking on import, the magic number (1009 for me) of photos found and where photo app freezes was pretty much instant, no chance of doing the cancel.

I strongly recommend just going in my computer, right cick the iphone and import via that. Works, no unplugging iphones etc.

This issue has to do with rogue photo/video files on the iphone and the Windows photo app, I also tested on Ubuntu via shotwell and all pic/videos weree discovered and offered import instantly.

What ended up working for me was a combination of a few different mentioned solutions. First, I switched the setting on my iPhone so that it would keep original photos when transferring. Then I also had to cancel the import scan halfway through, before it reached the total number, and restart again.

It didn't work at first, I had to try unplugging and reconnecting my phone a few times. And then try cancelling and restarting the import a few times. But it was successful eventually, and I'm able to open all the file types.

Nothing worked using photo app on windows 10 and latest iphone/ios. So what worked is in my computer, find the iphone, right click and click import photos option. This works!

I suspect a rogue photo or video causing this issue. Managed to import 3 other iphones no issues, only 1 playing up. May be the photo app has a temp file store which somehow gets corrupts, who knows.
