Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

    For anyone still experiencing this issue, specifically when importing from an iOS device to Windows 10, go into your iPhone's settings;

Settings>Photos>Transfer to MAC or PC (At the bottom)

Make sure this setting is on 'Keep Originals'.

I was having an issue where the photos app would only import 1-3 photos successfully and then "something went wrong" would appear. Apparently there is a conflict between what the iOS device is trying to export the photo as when it's converting it and what the Windows 10 Photos app is expecting to import.

    Hope this Helps!

I am having the same issue. Had it for a few months now so now my photo storage is getting smaller and smaller on my phone. When will Microsoft sort this issue out. I use a Samsung phone. It used to work, and now doesn't. Just freezes once it's got to a set number og photos discovered and won't finish the import

I am having the same issue as Zoe since about October this year. I have a Samsung phone as well. So I don't think this is exclusively an iPhone issue. The photo app freezes on both my laptop and my desktop after locating the photos on the phone. Why is this still an issue Microsoft?!

So try this on your iphone: settings, search for "Download and Keep Originals", scroll to the bottom, "Transfer to Mac or PC", and it will be ticked to automatic, change it to Keep originals and then try import again.

The Explorer right-click 'Import pictures and videos' ONLY WORKS on OLD PCs / PCs that have had Windows Photo Gallery installed.

Windows Photo Gallery was an optional install as it was part of Windows Live Essentials 2011 and Windows Essentials 2012 software.

    Windows Essentials included

    • Writer
    • Windows Mail
    • Windows Messenger
    • Windows Photo Gallery and Movie Maker
    • Family Safety
    • Skydrive / OneDrive

Unfortunately, the installer downloaded the selected software from Microsoft, which is no longer available!

PS. I have tried this 'Import pictures and videos' method on a Windows 10 Pc and an iPhone 7 with 11000 pics and vids and it has failed halfway during the import with timeout/device not available errors. Subsequent 'Imports...' have not completed the task!
