Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

My iphone is mow importing correctly now i cant find the unsubscribe from this question. i cant find the ... elipsis to unsubscribe on the question just has subscribe. grrrr

This is 100% a windows 10 pro problem in my case.

same processor, same ram, same cable, same phone, same phone settings

photo app works flawlessly on windows 10 enterprise, but hangs *every time* on windows 10 pro

Depending on how I configure my camera I either don't get the import option at all, or I do but get the same "no pictures or videos" response.

If instead of right clicking on your device in File Explorer you keep left clicking you should eventually get it to list the individual images, and you'll then be able to copy them onto your computer. It's tedious and time consuming, but it works.

I just remembered, I had to switch off the automatic conversion feature in my phone, see below from Apple's website.

You can change this import behavior in iOS 11 or later. Go to Settings > Photos. In the TRANSFER TO MAC OR PC section, tap Keep Originals to prevent the media from being converted to JPEG or H.264 when importing.

Once imported to my PC, I then switched on the automatic feature again (in case it is required for other devices). It seems like HEIF/HEVC is the new upcoming standard to replace JPEG. Yes, all my pictures/videos are saved as HEIF/HEVC format, which I am still able to view within windows.

I had the same problem since Jan. I tried everything and every time my Photos App freezes while it scans for import from my iPhone then, I tried the below process multiple times exactly and it worked all times. This looks like a good links giving the exact information.

So fingers crossed that Windows has this all covered with their next update and its out sooner rather than later!

These steps has also worked perfectly for me -

1. Plug your phone into your computer and give it a few minutes (you may have to unplug and plug it back in again if your computer can't read it).
2. Click on your 'This PC' icon to show your devices and drives
3. Right click on the iphone icon
4. Select 'import pictures and videos'
5. Select 'import all new pics'
6. Click on 'more options'
7. Choose the folders you want to save your photos and videos into (I did NOT save them in the windows photos or videos albums - I saved them on my D:Drive)
8. Click on 'OK'

Enter a name tag and then 'Import'

Proceed as normally to download photos and it worked in first attempt.
