Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

The same thing happens to me when I try and download from my Nikon D7500 or from the memory card. It freezes and does not allow me to import. Reset doesn't work. The only way to import is through photo gallery.

I now cannot even advance photos in a folder manually. This usually fixed when I reset the app but no longer.

    1. Plug your phone into your computer and give it a few minutes (you may have to unplug and plug it back in again if your computer can't read it).
    2. Click on your 'This PC' icon to show your devices and drives
    3. Right click on the iphone icon
    4. Select 'import pictures and videos'
    5. Select 'import all new pics'
    6. Click on 'more options'
    7. Choose the folders you want to save your photos and videos into (I did NOT save them in the windows photos or videos albums - I saved them on my D:Drive)
    8. Click on 'OK'
    9. Enter a name tag and then 'Import'

I tried the above and it took me to a screen where I could organize my photos, but it looks like that screen photos.  It says I have 16,160 new pictures and videos (yes, I still have old photos from my 2010 iPhone 4 on my 2017 iPhone X).  I wanted to see if it would give me the option to only select certain photos, but the window doesn't finish loading.  I'm guessing it's because of the number of "new" photos on my phone?  For now I'm saving my photos by searching the photos by date (I try to do this and back up my phone monthly), selecting ALL, then copying the photos to a folder on my drive.

For your info: I have found in french Feedback Hub a subject, "Photos App is having issues importing photos from USB devices", where Simon W, Microsoft engineer, wrote "We are investigating this issue and will post an update soon". He wrote that one month ago…

    Nobody knows what "soon" means.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Maybe because its on page 37 out of 40, bit of a needle in a haystack to find a posted solution that works.
