No matter what I try I can not import photos from my iphone
Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems
Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

2021-01-15T17:55:11+00:00 Had the same problem and tried repairing, resetting, uninstalling, messing with ntfs permissions and fresh windows install. Nothing worked.
I noticed that the problem appeared last year after i changed to a phone that has x265 compression for the video codec. Until HVEC extension were installed the app was stable but unable to display videos. After installing HVEC and app had sufficient time to scan for files it start crashing.
Adding videos one by one i found that the app crashed when i added a movie that was started in portrait mode and after the phone was put in landscape.
The icon of the video in explorer is portrait oriented but when played with windows media player classic the image is in landscape, needs to be rotated.
Any time i added that movie the app crashed and any time i was removing the movie from the folder the app was stable. I ended up deleting some movies that were not important and converting some with windows video editor on a virtual machine, where for some reason the app didn't crash.

2021-01-12T18:08:32+00:00 hi "CCCleaner",
this is strange. I have just tested again with my Android Smartphone:
I selected 4 of them, and "it worked", 4 photos have been copied. No freeze. 2120 pictures is a big amount of data...
Again, for me, in my environment, the freeze problem no loger occurs.
This does not mean that Photos application is reliable. Frequently, it "crashes". But those crashes occur sporadically, I am not able to reproduce them.
As a workaround solution, you can perhaps use the "Photo & Video Import (Axel Rietschin)" application (see comment dated december 23:
"found an app that does basically what Photos did for importing and organizing.
Here it is.

2021-01-12T10:01:32+00:00 hi "CCCleaner",
I have not tested with an iPhone. I have tested with an Android smartphone (Samsung) and with a digital camera (Sony): few months ago, I was able to reproduce the "freeze problem", but with current versions of Windows and Photos, this problem no longer occurs (there is an other problem, but this does not look like a real bug; MS has decided to change the rules...).
Did you try with an Android smartphone or a digital camera?
May be the problem is more complex: it has been solved in "most cases", but not in all cases...
(this is the 462nd comment in this thread.... Unbelievable...)

2021-01-11T20:45:25+00:00 still same Problem for me as always.
Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19042.685]
Microsoft Photos 2020.20110.11001.0
During the first attempt it looked promising, but after 47 items out of 11710 the process crashed again.
since the process did not import the merged picture and meta data file (but separated as it happens to happen via Explorer import, I suspect a problem with the iOS picture format handling in windows.
during the second attempt the same connection and "trust" issues with the iphone as usual. The photos app does not even setup the connection with the iphone properly. Every import attempt will be quit.
for me same issues as always. (iphone 11pro)
