This problem occurs with all kinds of phones and cameras including my seven-year-old Olympus XZ-1, which I'm pretty sure isn't using any fancy new file formats or picture enhancements.
Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

It used to only get to 1600 or so and then freeze but now that figure is the only thing that has changed.
Indeed very interesting. So is this issue overall isolated to HEIF and HEVC file format handling? What kind of Files are you trying to import on your Google pixel? HEIF is a new Apple standard : HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format)
can it be that Window 10 cannot handle these File formats properly? but why during the import? Does during the import any file transformation happen and if yes why during the import?!
The normal JPGs can be import as usually and as soon as a HEIF picture comes in the Windows conversion crashes?
So as soon as I use all the iPhone Camera Picture enhancements I cannot import the "final Result" of a picture anymore to a WIndows 10 PC?
What is the format in Googles Pixel?

2020-02-26T08:56:20+00:00 Yes - I have tried all suggestions so far mentioned right up to this post - every one of them, and even gone back after updating Windows and IOS and tried them again. It's great that file import worked for you at least and some others here.
I just remembered, I had to switch off the automatic conversion feature in my phone, see below from Apple's website.
You can change this import behavior in iOS 11 or later. Go to Settings > Photos. In the TRANSFER TO MAC OR PC section, tap Keep Originals to prevent the media from being converted to JPEG or H.264 when importing.
Once imported to my PC, I then switched on the automatic feature again (in case it is required for other devices). It seems like HEIF/HEVC is the new upcoming standard to replace JPEG. Yes, all my pictures/videos are saved as HEIF/HEVC format, which I am still able to view within windows.
