Updated to 1903 but 'user'.000 now created and holds all my user files

Yes, thankfully the roll back process appears to have returned everything back to the way it was. My C:Users folder contains my original username folder and a couple of practically empty folders (Default.migrated and DefaultAppPool) - I can't remember if these were there before but they don't take up any space. The process was fully automatic and pretty fast. Google search with "roll back windows 10 1903" takes you straight there.

It's very frustrating and obvious that MS only caters for the apparent masses/default configurations when doing this type of upgrade. Anyone who's used their PC for some time and/or who has configured their system on even a slightly more advanced level is going to be very annoyed. For myself I do have a system upgrade pending - moving onto Zen2 from Intel, maybe 3950x or the new Threadripper (16 core only) for more PCIe lanes etc. I'll be reinstalling Windows 10 so I'd like to think 1903 or later will come with the MS download. Getting the latest W10 (with 1903 built in) and re-installing might be an option for you providing reinstalling and configuring all your current software and options isn't too much of a headache.

Thanks ArchStant,  After nearly an hour and half on the phone to Microsoft, who first tried to convince me that the Outlook problem I had was not to do with the upgrade, and said that the user.000 was the profile I was using, and I should continue to use it . . . then passed me over to a MS Office specialist who showed me how to create a new Outlook profile etc . . .  .

I bit the bullet and rolled back.  As you said, perfectly simple and reasonably quick, and Outlook was just back to how I remembered.

They were both puzzled by the fact that my Documents and Pictures etc were not in the profile (which is on an SSD drive), but on my big HD (D:).

I'm still half convinced that the user.000 folder should NOT have been there after the upgrade, as it should be a temp folder while the upgrade progesses, I thought??

I am tempted to try the upgrade once more, after a clean restart or two, sometimes I have found that an upgrade fails, but then will work later . . . And I'm now confident that if it doesn't work a second time, I can rollback.  If it works I'll post here.

Thanks for your help on this forum.  Strange that the community often finds solutions which MS seem quite oblivious to.

Glad your roll back worked but pretty disgusted that paid MS employees have shown themselves to be utterly devoid of any competence , and lying through their teeth - the user.000 profile has never been defined in any capacity as a standard profile (though, this is more a reflection on MS of course since the scripts used in your phone calls are generated higher up).

If you have any imaging backup software (Acronis/Norton/etc) then it might be an idea to take a C: image too before you try the update again. I don't know about yourself but the install of 1903 on my machine took 4-5 hours! Good luck though, hopefully you get there painlessly.

Hi,  there are two similar threads about this.  Have you seen the other one? 'Windows 10 Update 1903 renames User fiolder'.   Yes fiolder with an 'i'.

Two of us have now pinned it down to ZUNE files and folders which the update cannot delete from the active profile . . . .   Nightmare to sort, but I have, and the upgrade worked without a hitch.

For me, I'll be re-installing Windows 10 from scratch on a new motherboard once I move over to Zen2 in a few months.
