Your Phone app shows duplicate sent messages

My Your Phone app is duplicating messages sent, sporadically. This has been happening the past few days. Windows and Your Phone apps have been updated. The duplicates are appearing in my Android texting app (Textra) as well. I have used Pulse, Google Messages, and Samsung Flow previously w/o this occurring.

Windows 10 Pro 1903

Android Pie, standard, non-rooted ROM

    Another interesting side effect, though.  If I send a text from my phone, it doesn't show up in the Your Phone interface.  I think it was showing up there before I killed off the Backup & Sync service.

    Am I right in thinking that they should be showing up?  I'll have to turn it back on to see I suppose.

    Hey @JefferyAndre,

    That's actually a great question!  Since we don't have a comprehensive "How to" guide for this, how do any of us know what's normal and what's not?

    Regardless, your suspicion is correct:  The messaging should be fully linked, bi-directionally -- a message sent from the phone will appear in the Win10 app, and a message sent from the Win10 app will appear on the phone.

    Of course, the operative phrase is "should be", right?

    ***NOTE:***For anyone interested, I read a pretty good article about the Your Phone Companion app in PC World's Feb 25, 2020 issue, title "How to use Windows' Your Phone app to connect your phone to your PC" by Mark Hachman -- I'll let you find it, if you want to read it.  It nicely describes what should be happening, and also describes certain features we'll (hopefully) see in future versions of the App and OS.

    Yeah, I was thinking with Backup & Sync it had been doing full bi-directional syncing.  That means there's a connection between that "feature" and the Your Phone sync mechanism.  I'm going to try disconnecting and resetting the connection between my phone and Surface without having Backup & Sync enabled and see what happens.  Then I'll re-enable it and see if that starts syncing properly again, but I know that will start the dupes again.

    Isn't software grand!

    I cannot find a sync-related issue. I have disabled or uninstalled anything that would have such a function, even my FolderSync Tasker Plugin... no changes.

    Last week, I decided to switch wifi back on, reboot, purge cache, etc. and almost immediately, duplicate texts again.

    For the past several days, I've been trying Google Messages. When using its web service, not Your Phone, no dupe messages. Connected to Your Phone, I've had a slight reduction in dupe messages, but they still occur. Using the Google web service may be different than using the Your Phone desktop app; may not be comparing apples to apples.

    Since I posted that message originally, I have yet to have a duplicate message with AT&T's backup & sync turned off.  That's my only reference point, but I've been using Your Phone HEAVILY, and frankly really enjoying not having that problem any more.

    Sorry you haven't had any luck.
