Instructions & support for de-installing Windows 10 and re-installing it

Hello,

After lots of good help from several people, we've decided that my Windows 10 is corrupted, and it's causing the following issue:

     - Entering keyboard data into a 3rd party app.  (and even into Microsoft Word sometimes) causes the 1st two characters to be NOT typed into the App.

       and need to be re-typed.

All attempts to fix this have failed.       I have made nightly backups made of all my personal data.

Can someone in the Community send me the precise set of steps I need to follow, to successfully de-install and re-install the O/S ?

And could that same person help me during the process, with any questions or problems I encounter ?

Thank you,

Gary

    DavidM121,

Are you aging while this is going on ?

The "Take Ownership" tool is still running.  Elapsed time > 4 hours.

And the green color has made no visible progress in covering the "X"in the tool bar.

The delay time between bursts of transactions  is getting much longer.

If it weren't for the green colored bar graph, I could have made a mistake earlier, and stopped the process.     But  I'm presuming that the green bar growth will stop, when the final transaction is made.

Are you OK with what I'm telling you ?

This is a lousy software design, to require that "Take Ownership" be executed on the master access point to an External Hard Drive, which contains gazillions of files and folders.

A better design would have allowed the User to gain access to these files first......and allow the User to pick the sub-folders that would get the "Take Ownership" utility to be engaged.   Would be much smaller files, and much faster.    Deja-vu:  This is madness.

On my screen right now, and for the past 4 hours, is:

"YOU DON'T CURRENTLY HAVE PERMISSION TO ACCESS THIS FOLDER."

"CLICK CONTINUE TO PERMANENTLY GET ACCESS TO THIS FOLDER."

The choices are "Continue" or "cancel".

    Should I click Continue ?

    Frustrated,

    Gary

    DavidM121,

The "Take Ownership" command is working.   It's been running for 25 minutes so far.

I need to open a critical file that is a portal to all of the files & folders stored on the External Hard Drive (EHD).    I don't have a way to access or open individual files or folders.   This global command is taking ownership of each & every one on the EHD.   I would guess there's tens of thousands of files & folders.

This might really take approximately forever  to complete.

A green bar graph started when I began the command.  The graph quickly progressed through the long textual name of the file I'm operating on.....and now the green is actually encircling the "X" at the right of the task bar.

If it ultimately is expected to totally cover the "X" with Green....we've got a long wait, at this femto-pico-nano progress pace it's making so far across the "X".

There are longer wait times between the bursts of ownership delta's now....maybe it's getting near the end point.   .?.   Nope.  I've gotta be patient and wait between these computing bursts . . . . .

    Hi Gary

Click the link below, on that page, scroll down to 'Here's How'

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3841-add-ta...

    From that section, download Add_Take_Ownership_to_context_menu.reg

When that file downloads, right click that file and choose Merge and confirm the merge

That will add a new entry to the right click menu in File Explorer - 'Take Ownership'

So for any folder of files that you get a permission error on, right click and choose Take Ownership - that wait for that command to complete . . .

David - to clarify my previous message.

In File Explorer,  I was at the portal to open up my account of personal data files & folders stored on the Western Digital 2TB External Hard Drive.

And I was surprised when the system asked about my privileges, and said i needed Admin.   But would never "complete" to give that to me.

With no access.....I have a disaster.   And when I put the mouse over the file, to see its properties, it said "Empty Folder".    WRONG;  it should have 4GB of data .

Please tell me an easy way around this.     But seeing that super-slow bar graph, after I clicked on "Give me Admin privileges"....and it took approximately forever to still not ever finish.....is pretty upsetting.

This PC was purchased in August 2014, with Windows 7 installed.

It came with Microsoft Office Home & Business 2013

But, in 2015, had a major hardware issue, and via my warranty and Tech. Support contract,  Dell sent a local tech. to my home. He installed a new Motherboard.

I remember he and Microsoft has some kind of product code issue, that they solved it.

    NEW MAJOR ISSUE

I used File  Explorer to TRY TO open up my External Hard Drive, and get to the files, to re-build my Firefox Bookmarks; my personal files for Word, Excel, etc.**;**and my log of radio contacts, along with the various config settings in each of 5 Ham Radio apps.

When I went to open the Gary Smetana account, the system told me that "To get access, I need to have Admin. privileges."  and to get those privileges, I need to click-on the button.  I did that, and an infinitely-slow bar graph ran for 3.5 hours and never completed.  I tried it again; ran it for 1/2 hour, and it barely got 1/5 of the way in the graph.   This is madness.

How do I get access to my files on the 2 TB Ext. Hard Drive ?

Can I call you on the phone ?

Can we do remote PC via Team Viewer ?

    Gary
