update 1903 sound problem

I have just updated to 1903, and have lost all sound. I have a Creative Audigy2 ZS Pro, yes, I know it's old, but it was working perfectly on build 1809.

After this 1903 update, no sound, so I went back to 1809, and hey presto, I got my sound back. I then tried the very latest 1903 build, but lost the sound again. Have MS got an answer? I will have to go back to 1809 if I want to hear anything, but can wait a day or so if anyone at MS can give me a solution.

    Hi JBMouse

you haven't mentioned which sound card you have, however, there is a known issue in the latest insider build (1903 has not been released yet).

"Creative X-Fi sound cards are not functioning properly. We are partnering with Creative to resolve this issue".

Yes, I have the insider build, not the public release, sorry, should have better explained that!

I have the Creative Audigy2 ZS Professional Plus sound card and external box, not a X-Fi card, but I can guess the problem is linked to the drivers.

I can see the sound bar going up and down in time with the music, just nothing coming out.

Time to roll back to 1809 then!

you could try the latest drivers from the creative website and the audio troubleshooter before rolling back to 1809

settings -> update & security -> troubleshoot playing audio

looking through the feedback, it seems nobody else has mentioned that card, but then most don't mention the sound card they are using, although I believe it is reported in the telemetry.

I have been unable to confirm that the problem affects other creative cards but it is possible.

Now I am stuffed - just tried to go back to the earlier build, but told it cannot be done! I am stuck with no sound. Microsoft strikes again, maybe I will have better lick with Linux?

I only updated yesterday, and the windows.old folder is still there 37.1GB in size.

I have just one restore point since update, I will try that and then try going back to the earlier build, failing all else, my system will get a thorough clear out and a fresh install! No sleep this weekend.
