I've literally just fixed my old Lumia 1020 that had a fried motherboard that was last turned on 5 years ago, and after fixing it all (replacing the motherboard), had to soft reset to get the windows logo to stop flashing, then a dead battery icon appeared so it looked like it was charging but it stayed that way for a long while. So I hard reset it and some gears showed, did it's thing and booted up.
To cut to the chase, read from here: Then I come to find out I cant sign into microsoft, cant use the store, but can add google mail and hotmail through exchange.. Did some research to find Microsoft had ditched their loyal customers on December the 15th 2019, literally 14 days ago. But appeared that they ditched updates since the beginning of the year. So no apps, no signing in, no way to even update! Because to update via the insider program for an unstable build or via upgrade advisor, you need to download the flippin app!
Honestly, this company is full of surprises, the way my phone died was null. No reason whatsoever, I was messaging, put it in my pocket, the phone didn't drop, wasn't hot, nothing. But it never turned on for 5 years since that day, and the day I finally see it turn on, it's useless!
Well enough of me ranting, in those 5 years I transitioned from the iPhone to the galaxy s7 edge to the galaxy note 8 and the next is the note 10. So I'm not too bothered but I won't let my trouble go to waste, there's an "Over the cable" software you could download on your PC which should help you upgrade your phones to windows 10, however, I don't even think the 1020 supports Windows 10.. But I'll still try soon anyways. Right now the only issue I have is my phone will only charge with 1 cable, not the original, not a newer or older cable will work on the micro USB port I have. I have a replacement but it's not the easiest job to remove.. And yes, that's an indication to show my Lumia 1020 does not get recognised on my PC with either WDRT or the Over The Cable software or even Device Manager. Hopefully replacing the pin will get my phone recognised on my PC and further hope will let me update somehow to anything that enables logging into my microsoft account.
If anyone has any ideas that could help with windows 8.1 logging into microsoft account or installing an app without a cable, please let me know. Cheers. All the best to everyone facing issues!
