Infrared not recognized

Upgraded to Windows 10 ver 1903 and the infrared device is not working. Got this:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Dalvic do you still have the problem?

Try to remove and re-add the Infrared. It is probably more reliable to use the PowerShell Commands (If you are not comfortable you can try the interface which may not work.

Power Shell to Add / remove IrDA infrared components

Run PowerShell as administrator

Query state of the IrDA components:

get-WindowsCapability -online -Name "Network.Irda~~~~0.0.1.0"

Unistall

Remove-WindowsCapability -online -Name "Network.Irda~~~~0.0.1.0"

Add

add-WindowsCapability -online -Name "Network.Irda~~~~0.0.1.0"

Query state of the IrDA components:

get-WindowsCapability -online -Name "Network.Irda~~~~0.0.1.0"

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> get-WindowsCapability -online -Name "Network.Irda~~~~0.0.1.0"

Then the others:

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> Remove-WindowsCapability -online -Name "Network.Irda~~~~0.0.1.0"

Path :Online : TrueRestartNeeded : False

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> add-WindowsCapability -online -Name "Network.Irda~~~~0.0.1.0">>

Path :Online : TrueRestartNeeded : False

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> get-WindowsCapability -online -Name "Network.Irda~~~~0.0.1.0"

Alternative: on windows interface:

To remove:

Go to Settings -> Apps and Features -> Optional Features

Select IrDA Infrared and click uninstall.

To Install

Go to Settings -> Apps and Features -> Optional Features

Add a feature (top of list)

Select IrDA Infrared from the list.

It installs and should be visible in the Optional Features list.

Go back to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items and hopefully you will now see Infra Red icon and features.

If this does not work do use the PowerShell commands

Which version and what was the most recent update that mucked things up?

I'm personally staying away from MS updates and upgrades like the plague. They do far more harm than good for the most part.

I have not checked my test PC that I had the problems with, but then I've not done any updates.

My main PC is running v. 1803 (17134.950). Sticking with that until they have a version that is not messed up.

Hi {smile}. Have you tried this again recently (Sep 2019)? I also have a UWatec IR adapter. It was working. The previous process with the "add-On" worked fine and when the dongle was plugged in, Windows would pop up the "InfraRed device" notification. A recent update broke the process. So I did the usual uninstall and reinstall processes for the Add-On. Now when I plug it in, Device Manager shows "STIr42xx" which does not work and is not recognized by pretty well anything. The InfraRed icon is shown in Control Panel. When I open the module, it shows OK for settings (make sense), but all of the fields in the hardware tab are blank ... no comms with the dongle.

So the short question is have you tried the InfraRed interface in the past few weeks after the recent updates?

Plugged in just now...still working. Any new updates to Win10 have not ruined it after I did the simple method repair months ago.

Peter, I didn't scroll up far enough and saw where my previous message outlined those same directions. I guess someone has gone in and mucked up the IRDA routine. I haven't checked mine recently.
