Media Creation Tool Error 0x80042405 0xA001B

I must be doing something wrong because I always have the update fail with some BS error like this. What are the proper steps to run this tool?

I download the tool to the desktop. I'm on an Admin account. I insert a 16GB thumb drive. I format it. I start the tool. I point it to the thumb drive. During the phase where the files are copied to the USB, I get some stupid error like this:

Why are my steps not good enough? Where is the hole in my logic? Or is this tool just written poorly. I'd like to use stronger language here as I used to have to start it all over again and burn bandwidth trying this failed endeavor over and over.

I've heard people make it work by running the tool FROM the USB. Why would that matter? I've tried to write files to the thumb drive just after the format and before running the tool to make sure I have successful writes. Doesn't help. 

As a workaround today, I left the error up for a bit. Tried to access the thumb drive and it said it needed to be formatted AGAIN! So I did. Then I just opened the C:$Windows.~WS\Sources\Windows and copied the files to the drive by hand. Made the dang thing myself! WHO WRITES THIS STUFF??

    Besides the processor speed and how many cores it has or how much RAM, I think there is a huge difference when the system disk is an SSD instead of an HDD.

    SSD's are way faster, no comparison.

    I was ready to throw my Dell XPS 8300 away because it was getting too slow, then I installed an SSD and it is like having a completely different machine.

    That makes me feel a lot better about mine. 😊. Oddly, I did a clean install twice (not 1903), & it ran in under 30 minutes both times. There were a minor driver/two to deal with afterwards.

    I just made a couple of tests with the MSI-GT70-0NC laptop, which is almost 8 years old.

      "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz"

                        Number of Cores:"4"

                        Number of Cores Enabled:"4"

                        Number of Logical Processors:"8"

    16GB RAM, Zheino mSATA SSD 476GB, Hitachi HDD 768GB, .

    1. 1903 Upgrade on a fully functional system preserving all files and programs about 43 Minutes.
    2. 1903 Fresh Install from scratch on the same machine took about 12 Minutes.

    My desktops Dell XPS 8700 and XPS 8300 are faster than this laptop.

    That's impressive. Thanks for the comparison. I feel bad again, 😒 - but good for you, 😊.

    Well, that machine has more GHz, twice the logical processors, twice my RAM & an SSD. So, I guess it makes plenty sense it should excel like it does. Still, I'm hoping my 1903 upgrade times are an anomaly. Time will tell, when 1909 comes around. I will be overjoyed, if it will return to 1 hour.
