Is there any REAL way to disable this cancer feature?
This is not the first time i have lost unsaved work due to this annoying function, that almost every Windows user hates.
I'm trying to behave, but it is really hard to keep calm after loosing unsaved work multiple times.
Why is it that Windows cannot just wait until the user decides to restart at a convenient time? It's not like the end of the world that users doesn't restart at a specific time.
In a time where Apple's Mac is already "stealing" a lot of Windows customers, it is a very risky (and dumb) feature to add to Windows.
This alone is very difficult to argue against in a Mac vs. Windows discussion.
Luckily (for Microsoft) Microsoft have secured themselves from a law suit in their policy.
MS knows that all Windows users hates this feature, and yet they still have it. WHY?
So back to the question. Is there any official/unofficial way (FOR GOOD) that allows me to disable this annoying feature?
I tried following some tutorials on YouTube, but little did it help obviously, as i just came home and found my computer restarted, and my work deleted.

There is ONE way to do this that works. I think I may get in trouble for it, but here it goes.
There is an option to use 3rd party software to stop the entire update process. I use it for virtual machines that need to be frozen in a certain state, MS's ideas about what I do with my PC be damned.

I feel you man, I hate microsoft for this stupid feature.
they dont have it on windows 2012 server.
What I have most is that microsoft refuse to listen to customer needs.
I dont mind if the auto reboot feature is enabled by default but there should a way to disable, even if this means to get nagged all the time to reboot windows.
But Microsoft, like Apple have a track record of believing they know better.
I praise all the people who try to help, although I see that the workarounds are often very difficult to implement or even to understand.
My computer is a home server, it is on 24/24 and my family use to watch movies and stuffs on Plex.
I also have Virtual machines that my sons use for developments.
when the machine is rebooted it creates lot of havocks, a lot of lost work, like all the movies I encode in a queue that takes several days. One time, I lost a VM for good that got corrupted because VMware was killed by the automatic reboot.
My personal workaround is to pause the update for 7 days. thats a button you can push on the windows update page.
when someone connect to the machine with remote desktop or teamviewer, they have to manually check for update, install them and restart the machine *when neeed* in a graceful manner.
I'm a software developer and this really drives me nuts about Windows. Someone said something later in this thread that rings perfectly true. This is something Apple would do, which is why I hate them. Give me my options and don't force me to do things I don't want to do.
I too am a developer, and I use a Mac Book and a Windows 10 Notebook - over the last couple of years, the Mac OS has gotten better, while Windows 10 seems to have gotten worse. The Mac Book doesn't seem to force reboots when updating, which is something Windows 10 should never do either. I leave applications open overnight quite often - and I expect them to still be open when I unlock by machine. FULL STOP.
GIVE ME MY OPTIONS AND DON'T FORCE ME TO DO THINGS I DON'T WANT TO DO.... <--- MS YOU NEED TO LISTEN.
...and don't get me started on the start menu.

What are you talking about, Windows 8? lol.
The Windows 10 start menu is a masterpiece.
It's the best, most customizable start menu Windows has ever had.
Have you turned on Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced Options > Update Notifications?
(Don't know if this available on "non-Pro" editions though.)
