KB4493509 fails to install

Hello everyone,

this is the first update since upgrade to 1809 that fails to install. I tried everything. Manual downloading, but even manual installing at the end just shows message, that the update couldn't be installed, without any errors. At Windows Update, it's shown an error 0x800f0982. I've done sfc /scannow, no corrupted files. I've done Restorehealth etc, and the error is still there. This is the first time that has happened to me. So should I wait for next update? Or what to do?

    You may wait, if all is well otherwise. Maybe 1903 will come in well. 1809 might even self-correct in the meantime.

    BUT... do make a Windows system image backup. I renew mine after every quality update (new OS Build), & I make two (one with DiscWizard) after every feature update (new Windows version).

    I was thinking to do a backup of my personal files on my external disc. And if it doesn't come well, I would to a full recovery of Windows. What do you think about that?

    It is good to also make a separate drag/drop backup of important downloads & user files onto external media (as you say), even though those are included in (& are individually retrievable from) a Windows system image backup (as in that other thread). The system image backup is really useful to undo a catastrophic failure, like an unbootable/unrepairable system. I made one before trying a clean install (thinking my Dell OEM wouldn't like it), but didn't have to use it. All went well.
