VPN not working on Windows 10 1903

I am an IT technician at an IT company. One of our clients has asked us to install a fresh version of Windows onto 6 of their PCs.

These PC's are old PC's that they do not use - meaning that they have had a fresh version of Windows installed onto them. This has been upgraded to 1903. I have attempted to setup a VPN connection in order to connect the PC's to the company's domain. When doing so, the VPN connection just hangs on 'Connecting to vpn'

I know 1903 is still very new into the world, but wondering if anyone knows how this issue can be resolved?

This issue has been resolved. I had created a thread on TechNet and the user Travis Huang was able to provide a solution.

Simply by connecting to the VPN via the settings menu instead of using the tasktray!

This is a clumsy workaround, not a fix for an obvious UI bug in the OS.  You can have the users save their username/pwd in the VPN config, but that is also a security risk, if the computer is compromised.

HI looks like theres a problem with 1903 and VPN if you right-click on network connection and go-to "open network & internet settings" and go-to the VPN tile and connect it will ask for username and password and work.

But it will not keep the username you need to go-to "change adapter options" then properties on the VPN and tick the "remember my credentials" in the options tab then when you do the VPN from windows 10 tiles it will stick and you can use the vpn from the network connection.

Hope this works I am looking in a GPO or reg fix

When ever I try and run this update, I get the following message

Windows Update Standalone Installer - The update is not applicable to your computer.

We are running Windows 10 Enterprise version  1903 build 18362.356

the update is probably already installed.   If you are just getting the connecting dialog, this won't fix it.  This is a UI bug in the task tray vpn connect pathway.  You need to go to - Start - Settings - Network - VPN and click connect there, until Microsoft fixes the UI bug they introduced with 1903.

You can reduce user exposer by setting their updates to:  (under Advanced options)

    • Chose When updates are installed:   Set to:  Semi-Annual Channel.
    • Feature updates delayed 365 days (next versions of windows, like 1903, wont be installed until one year after release.
    • Quality updates deferred:  30 days

This can be set manually or via group policy or local policy.  You can also use group policy to set updates to longer be automatic, but check and prompt or download and prompt or completely manual, if you want.
