2019-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1809 for x64-based Systems (KB4495667) - Error 0x80070005

Have been trying for several days now trying to get this latest Update to install. I've read every post I could find online, run every batch file to reset/clear updates services, run sfc, run malwarebytes (all clear), ran Dism utility, and finally reinstalled Windows10, twice - once from old iso about a year old, and one from a new download from MS yesterday. Still won't install! (Did reinstall Win10 keeping apps and data files.)

All Batch Files did what they were supposed to do, pretty sure anyway, resetting Windows update services.

SFC found nothing.

Clean Boot removing all services didn't help.

Dism /ScanHealth came back finding a repairable problem, but /RestoreHealth freezes around 86.5% and gives me a timeout error of 12002.

Malwarebytes found nothing.

Both re installs of windows 10 went without a hitch, and all updates EXCEPT Cumulative Update downloaded and installed properly.

I also found in one of the posts a batch file that was supposed to reset all permissions, which the above error supposedly indicates, and it went through without any errors, but still nothing.

Any other suggestions would really be appreciated.

I get it, and I'm getting close to that point in time myself. But I think I'm being a little OCD about getting it to work. I've got 2 desktop computers, one I use for video editing, and restoring my old photos, and the other for goofing around on. I like database work and play around a little with Microsoft Basic & Trying to learn C++. The update went great on the computer I use for database work, but it fails on the video editing computer.

That's what making me a little paranoid about getting it to work. It doesn't appear to be causing any problems, just ticks me off that it won't work like it's supposed to. I do appreciate the advise, and it looks like that's where I'm heading now.

Hi Kathleen,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Ran Memory Diagnostic test-All okay. Didn't do the /r of chkdsk, I have a solid state drive, and the Samsung Drive controller should take care of that, I checked status of SSD and it showed all status checks OK. I did, however, do a chkdsk /f. It also checked okay. Problem still exists.

Forgot to mention, I also downloaded latest troubleshooting file from MS and ran that, it couldn't find anything wrong, and I also downloaded the standalone KB4495667 and tried running it as well. Gets to 100% installation just as running check update on setting menu, then just returns a message that it was not Installed, in this case only the error number is missing.

Got any other tricks up your sleeve?

Hey,

I suggest you to not bother with these updates. I can not install KB4493509 and now KB4495667. At Windows Update under settings it drops at 100% installation error 0x800f0982, at manual it shows nothing, just that the package was not installed - like you mention it happened same by your case. I also try everything, like you, and I came to conclusion, that I am wasting my energy, time and power of restarting laptop everytime when trying new fix. So just wait for 1903 upgrade, and hope it will be without errors and problems.

I recommend checking the Hard Disk and Ram Memory

1.- First, close all the programs and files that you have open.

2.- Click with the right mouse button in the Windows Start menu and select Control Panel. Then choose the category System and security. On the next screen, look down Administrative Tools on the right and click on that option.

3.- One of those tools is the Windows Memory Diagnostic. Double click on it to open it.

4.- The diagnosis gives two options to choose from. See what each one does and click on the one you prefer:

 Restart now and check if there are problems. It is best to select in most cases. Make sure to close all programs as I have asked before. The PC will reboot on its own when choosing this option. Right after, the check also starts automatically.

Then check the Hard Disk.
1. Open an elevated Command Prompt (Press the Windows + X button at the same time, then choose Command Prompt (Admin))
2. Type the following command, and replace the X with the drive letter you wish to scan: “chkdsk /f /r X:
3. Hit the enter key, Command Prompt will now start CHKDSK.
