What were the steps? I just updated THREE computers and NONE of them are able to connect to Windows Update. I did an "in-place upgrade" on one of them and it did not resolve the problem. 

MESSAGE: "We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet."

UPDATE is KB4476976 (OS Build 17763.292)

And, yes, I am connected to the internet. This is very annoying. If it is an issue/bug (and it must be) how does MS plan on rolling out a fix if users cannot connect to Windows Update? I have tried all the known fixes out there (stop/start services related to WU, run various commands in an elevated command prompt, perform an in-place upgrade, you name it. Nothing works).

    I'm having the issue with Windows Update on a couple new Windows Server 2019 builds.  Changing the DNS to the Google addresses hasn't helped.

    Both my machines are faulting, again!! Desktop seemed to work when DNS changed ( at least I didn't get the error message ), but faulted when returned to default settings. It's about time MS released a definitive statement..... even if it's only 'we don't know the answer....give us more time'!!!! At least there wouldn't be all of us around the world wasting our time!

    I have gone through a factory reset and reconfiguration with BT and also tried the Personal Hot Spot approach.

    My Workstation did Update once, following the Router Reset but has subsequently stopped updating.

    The Personal Hotspot fix did not work at all for me.

    As I say, in my opinion this is a complex problem and different people will get different results.

    I have made BT aware of the fact that many users are likely to experience problems connected with this and they have escalated their investigation of it.

    Fortunately, I can do nearly all of my day-to-day work using my iPhone and iPad and my Office 365 is working fine.

    So I have no pressing need to update my PC s in the short term.

    I feel sorry for those businesses with a large network of PC s who may be dependent on a reliable system being in place for updating them.

    The whole point of Windows 10 is to ensure that this is the case but it would seem that there is a significant problem at the moment.

    I am sure that it will be sorted out in due course, these things generally are !

    Any business with a large network would be running their own wsus server and not relying online

    It didnt work with any of our machines using google dns, how ever the open dns server did seem to work fine for me

    Theres more to this issue than the Servers.

    Im getting start up failures and failure to shut down completely and some transient performance issues.

    Windows failed fast startup with error status 0xC0000001.
