What were the steps? I just updated THREE computers and NONE of them are able to connect to Windows Update. I did an "in-place upgrade" on one of them and it did not resolve the problem. 

MESSAGE: "We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet."

UPDATE is KB4476976 (OS Build 17763.292)

And, yes, I am connected to the internet. This is very annoying. If it is an issue/bug (and it must be) how does MS plan on rolling out a fix if users cannot connect to Windows Update? I have tried all the known fixes out there (stop/start services related to WU, run various commands in an elevated command prompt, perform an in-place upgrade, you name it. Nothing works).

    Yes, I am in the UK and have been getting this problem since yesterday.  I have three machines, managed to update one of them but now this one will not update today.

    I am not going to start messing around with workarounds because you end up like that episode of 'Friends' when they were fooling themselves into thinking that certain actions on the TV Controls were correlated with the TV but it was just random with their imaginations filling in the gap !

    Microsoft should  be pushing an announcement about this to users but it does not surprise me that they have not done so,  so far.

    Thanks to all the contributors on this thread, at least now I know that this is a general problem and not just with my setup.

    All the best and please Microsoft, get this sorted !

    Microsoft, PLEASE fix this, its not really acceptable.  I have tried some of the suggestions on this thread but have 2 PCs still not working.  This really is beyond acceptable given how long it has been now.  Thanks.

    Many thanks cambraiXTH and to others for this suggestion. I am also a BT (business broadband) customer in the UK and I have just tried tethering to my Android Vodafone 4G hotspot. I couldn't update before but I have now successfully run Windows Update and got Store App Updates, while tethered and then again after re-connecting to BT.

    As I mentioned above, after doing the tethering option I have had no issues getting updates when connected to my Wi-Fi. It really makes no sense, but that is what happened.
