What were the steps? I just updated THREE computers and NONE of them are able to connect to Windows Update. I did an "in-place upgrade" on one of them and it did not resolve the problem. 

MESSAGE: "We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet."

UPDATE is KB4476976 (OS Build 17763.292)

And, yes, I am connected to the internet. This is very annoying. If it is an issue/bug (and it must be) how does MS plan on rolling out a fix if users cannot connect to Windows Update? I have tried all the known fixes out there (stop/start services related to WU, run various commands in an elevated command prompt, perform an in-place upgrade, you name it. Nothing works).

    A public DNS simply means numbers that have been made available to the public for their use. Google's are very safe to use. You have to change the DNS at the router level or in your networking settings (depending on your setup). 

    I changed to Google DNS and everything started working. I had the issue on about 6 machines in the UK. Two of them were Insider versions.

    Same here on both PC and laptop, troubleshooter reports no problems. I've tried several fixes but none have worked.

    Can't be an ISP issue as it's happening all over the world!

    Microsoft really should make a statement about this, or do... something!

    I resolved the issue by following the advice about changing the DNS. First flush the DNS cache as explained earlier in the power shell or command prompt. Then I went to my network adapter properties Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network Connections. In may active connection right click and properties. Under Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), select and properties when the properties becomes highlighted.

    Then under DNS settings, change from automatic to use the following and enter 8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4. Hit OK and close out. wait a couple of minutes and then try windows updates and it will work. All my apps from the app store updated too!

    No need to reboot and no need to fiddle with your router settings (BTW i am on BT).
