What were the steps? I just updated THREE computers and NONE of them are able to connect to Windows Update. I did an "in-place upgrade" on one of them and it did not resolve the problem. 

MESSAGE: "We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet."

UPDATE is KB4476976 (OS Build 17763.292)

And, yes, I am connected to the internet. This is very annoying. If it is an issue/bug (and it must be) how does MS plan on rolling out a fix if users cannot connect to Windows Update? I have tried all the known fixes out there (stop/start services related to WU, run various commands in an elevated command prompt, perform an in-place upgrade, you name it. Nothing works).

    Again, I don't really know - depends on whether your PCs are networked and you set the intra DNS not the WiFi I guess.  I'd just try it and see with the second PC.  IF the updater doesn't play ball then set the DNS to the 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

    Bizarre how this has worked out.

    Don't really know.  Just a case or trying it and see what happens if you revert back to auto.  I'm keeping with the Google DNS until MS makes an 'announcement' (but I won't be holding my breath until it does!).

    Re. my recent comment.  I've now re-started the PC and the remaining updates are now downloading.  So clearing the cache, changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and restarting has worked for me.

    I've just flushed my DNS cache and changed the DNS server to 8.8.8.8.  Some updates seem to have downloaded successfully:  'Pending Restart'.  But then the 'couldn't connect to the update service' message reappeared.   I'll restart and see what happens......
