My Lenovo 100s got a Microsoft update on 2/11/18. Since restarting I get the bitlocker blue screen asking me to enter the recovery. I never set one up, was never asked to set one up, so don't have one. Been backwards and forwards with Lenovo, who say they are working on the problem and have now said it is a problem for Microsoft to sort out. Contacted Microsoft who have said it is a hardware problem for Lenovo to sort. Please can someone just help to sort it out.

re the issue with Lenovo 100s and bit locker having been onto Lenovo and Microsoft to get issue resolved

first speaking with LENOVO they confirmed it is a Microsoft issue 100s Ideapad  DOES NOT HAVE TPM CHIP INSTALLED NOR IS THE HARD DRIVE PARTIONED  OR A SEPERATE BOOT OPTION IF YOU READ MICROSOFT OWN CRITERIA  for bit locker to be enabled THE MACHINE NEEDS THESE also as bit locker is Microsoft

not LENOVO . Having now spoken to a Microsoft agent in the U S A he now agrees that it is their issue

having pointed out their own criteria for bitlocker  he agreed beyond his pay grade and would force it up the line

I pointed out also two days before the update KB4462919 within my Microsoft account where you are supposed

to find this key my setting was off it now shows on not changed by me so why cannot the Microsoft accounts be rest to off by default like the update did earlier in year .I have written in disgust to Microsoft AS THIS IS NOW THE SECOND TIME UPDATES HAVE CAUSED ISSUES WITH LAPTOPS WITHIN THE FAMILY AND WE NEED ANSWERI AGREE CORPARTIONS NEED BIT LOCKER I DONT

I found clicking "Skip this drive" (on the blue screen asking for the recovery key) got me to

the Windows troubleshooting menus. Using the Novo button and System Recovery should do the same thing. Then in a command windows I ran Diskpart, 'list disk' -> 'sel disk 0' -> list vol -> 'sel vol 0' and

'delete volume override' (your device/partition numbers may be different of course). I suppose a Format would have acheived the same thing. Regards, Shaun.

I had this same problem this month June 2019. A Lenovo 100S-11IBY notebook with Windows 10 Home (32-bit). A blue screen kept asking for a recovery key even though I never set up BitLocker which in any case is not possible in Home versions of Windows 10. It initially says "Preparing Bitlocker recovery" on the Lenovo splash screen followed by the blue screen. On-line chats with both MS and Lenovo did not result in any offered solutions (other than perhaps send it to Lenovo out-of-warranty repairs at, probably, some exorbitant cost).

In such cases I normally try to boot from my own Windows 10 USB sticks or CDs but the Lenovo

didn't seem to know they were connected.

The BIOS/UEFI settings are severely limited on this machine and I couldn't get to any settings to enable 'Legacy' support or similar.

Clicking "Skip this drive" (on the blue screen) took me to a standard Windows 10 troubleshooting set of menus. From here I could run a command prompt but still could not access the "C:" drive.

Since I wasn't too worried about the data files I thought I would try deleting the partition using Diskpart. Essentially 'delete volume override'. This worked!

On re-booting I then got a general blue screen with the error code 0xC0000034. Basically, no boot device can be found which makes sense.

This suggests the problem has nothing to do with the BIOS and relates to the boot sector of the drive.

I then began to realise that I was trying to boot from 64-bit media with (I think) a 32-bit UEFI.

So I created a new Windows 10 installation USB stick opting for both 32-bit AND 64-bit using

the MS Media Creation Tool to build an ISO which I then copied to a USB stick using Rufus 3.5 with GPT and "UEFI (non CSM)", FAT32.

Booting the Lenovo using the NOVO button I then went to Boot Menu and I could now finally see a second entry called "EFI USB Device (USB Mass Storage Driver" alongside "Windows Boot Manager".

(Previously clicking Boot Manager achieved nothing by the way. Neither did turning off Secure Boot, clicking "Reset to Setup Mode", or anything else in here. Some options were not selectable such as "Secure Boot Mode: Custom").

Selecting this brought up the standard Windows installation screens with the 32-64 bit option.

I chose 32-bit and Windows installed successfully.

Oddly though the keyboard didn't work! Also audio, proper graphics and function keys (for the Lenovo functions such as changing brightness etc) needed attention. Downloading the "Intel Platform Driver" from Lenovo support resolved these problems.

Whether I could have avoided deleting the "C:" partition I can't say.

I hope all that helps anyone else who has encountered this ridiculous problem.

    HI ALL

This is a copy of email sent by me after long talks with this agent who although has not solved the issue at least rings me or emails me

when he says he will with the question of compensation I did have talks with the team that deal with claims .the statement was that as I had not bought it from Microsoft no claim I pointed out when I bought the 100s it clearly said runs windows 10 home which at the time of purchase BIT LOCKER WAS NOT AVAIABLE FOR WINDOWS 10 HOME again just went round in ever decreasing circles
