Lenovo 100s ideapad Bitlocker problem after Windows update Nov 2018.

My Lenovo 100s got a Microsoft update on 2/11/18. Since restarting I get the bitlocker blue screen asking me to enter the recovery. I never set one up, was never asked to set one up, so don't have one. Been backwards and forwards with Lenovo, who say they are working on the problem and have now said it is a problem for Microsoft to sort out. Contacted Microsoft who have said it is a hardware problem for Lenovo to sort. Please can someone just help to sort it out.

re the issue with Lenovo 100s and bit locker having been onto Lenovo and Microsoft to get issue resolved

first speaking with LENOVO they confirmed it is a Microsoft issue 100s Ideapad  DOES NOT HAVE TPM CHIP INSTALLED NOR IS THE HARD DRIVE PARTIONED  OR A SEPERATE BOOT OPTION IF YOU READ MICROSOFT OWN CRITERIA  for bit locker to be enabled THE MACHINE NEEDS THESE also as bit locker is Microsoft 

not LENOVO . Having now spoken to a Microsoft agent in the U S A he now agrees that it is their issue 

having pointed out their own criteria for bitlocker  he agreed beyond his pay grade and would force it up the line

I pointed out also two days before the update KB4462919 within my Microsoft account where you are supposed 

to find this key my setting was off it now shows on not changed by me so why cannot the Microsoft accounts be rest to off by default like the update did earlier in year .I have written in disgust to Microsoft AS THIS IS NOW THE SECOND TIME UPDATES HAVE CAUSED ISSUES WITH LAPTOPS WITHIN THE FAMILY AND WE NEED ANSWERI AGREE CORPARTIONS NEED BIT LOCKER I DONT

    I had a heck of a time figuring out how to get past it myself until I did some research and learned that if I pressed the Novo button it would give me a menu... then going to System Recovery ---> Advanced, which took me to where I could go to a command prompt. That, at least, let me format the hard drive. Of course then all the other crap started happening.

    hi thanks for post but as all machines cannot get past the bitlocker recovery key issue you cannot go into anything to make any changes

    From what I've read, formatting the HD and reinstalling Win10 does the trick, and for those of us who didn't get a paper user guide with their IdeaPad, the license key is built into the Bios so that's no problem. However....

    Here's my adventure:

    After re-learning how to format the HD via command prompt (last time I had to do that was during WinXP days) I formatted the drive, then attempted to reinstall Win10 via USB. I got an error message that it could not be installed on an MRB hd, only a GPT hd system.

    Next step, I found out how I could convert from MRB to GPT which is a relatively simple process if you can bring up a command prompt, which now I couldn't because I've lost my mouse and touchpad access (because of the formatting??).

    I did some more research and decided that using WinPE would probably help me, so then I had to learn how to make a bootable USB with which to use WinPE, and in the process it seems that it would be even more helpful if I partitioned the USB so I could store a couple other helpful programs.

    Somewhere along the way I read that I should be sure to use a USB 3.0 but nowhere on my 2 empty USB drives did it say 3.0, and after researching yet again found that there was no 100% way to visually be sure of the USB version BUT there was yet another nifty little program that would tell me so that's when I discovered they were USB 2.0.

    At that point I decided it would be a better idea to go out an pick up a new thumb drive the next day and have some whiskey instead. All this to save the $80 (that I didn't have anyway) my local computer repair shop would charge to load Win10 for me. 

    The next day I went out and bought a new thumb drive. It was a 2-pack on sale and money was very short. The store clerk looked it up on the manufacturers' website but it didn't say if it was 3.0. She was sure it must be, though, so I bought it. Went home and checked with the SKU and it was 2.0. Went back out, stopped at a different store and found a 3.0 on sale for $2 less, then returned the other. Came home and opted for whiskey again.

    Since my IdeaPad isn't used very often anyway, I put the whole darned thing on the back burner for a couple of weeks and I'm just now getting back to it. Of course I don't remember half of what I 'learned' but thankfully saved bookmarks.... still, since the "Murphy's Law" of computers tends to kick in on a regular basis, I've prepared myself emotionally to deal with what comes my way LOL. If all else fails, there's whiskey! (partially joking :o) ).

    I don't know if any of this information is useful to anyone, but hopefully it will at least give you a chuckle.

    latest things that I have been doing I have agent from Microsoft who has been although every thing  and is now contacting Lenovo direct as I have said some of this series of idea pad do not and have never had a boot from usb option in bios

    but everyone with this issue should check with Lenovo with their serial numbers to see if their machine did have it 

    I have also found out as well that because the oct 2018 was so big that the update stopping would also trigger the bit locker even so it should not have as the 100s does not meet Microsoft s own criteria ie a partioned hard drive which as I understand we don't have and the option to boot from usb after 4 phonecalls from this agent I think I got the message

    over that we are not happy bunnies and it needs sorting I will wait with baited breath Microsoft also keep trying to close the case that I have with them but I have stated not to close until resolved
