You need to click to un-pin on the banner bar while you are still connected to get the bar to hide. Then use your notification sidebar to select "Project" then "Disconnect" to disconnect from your TV or projected screen. This order is the only way to get rid of the banner bar.

Thank you Ivan for offering the best workaround. For those of you struggling to rename the file after taking ownership, I found that you may also need to grant your account Full Control to the file before you can rename it. Default access will be Read & Execute, and that will be insufficient to rename the file. 

I agree most of the posts in this thread - the Wireless Projection Experience bar is a nuisance and one of the most annoying new features added to Windows 10 1809. At a minimum, Microsoft could add an option to disable this feature under the gear icon. 

Unfortunately this forum is most likely not monitored by Microsoft but by volunteers who may or may not have the ability to help enact a change. For those of you that are vehemently opposed to this feature and would like Microsoft to make a change, it would be better to voice your opinion in the "Feedback Hub" application on your Windows 10 1809 device. Open "Feedback Hub," log in with your Microsoft Account, and either enter your feedback or vote up an existing entry. Search for "Wireless Display Bar Persists on Disconnect" as an example.

I am an educator and was recently forced by the technology director to update my school-issued computer to the new version of Windows 10.  I was dodging her for months, avoiding the update ... but she finally cornered me and stole my precious laptop.  Since I've gotten my laptop back, my work day has been a living nightma re. I wish I was exaggerating.  It is 100% due to this "Wireless Projection Banner".

I have to project wirelessly in my classroom for a continuous 8 hours a day.  At the same time, I must complete other tasks throughout the day in web browsers, testing platforms, Word, PowerPoint, etc.  Your "Wireless Projection Banner" gets real old, real quick.

A few questions for you, Microsoft (and I hope you respond to these!):

1.  Why would you create a "banner" that interferes with your entire suite of Microsoft software?

• Every time I try to use any tab in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel while connected, your "banner" pops up in front and I am unable to access them.  It makes doing anything in YOUR OWN BRAND OF SOFTWARE very inconvenient, time-consuming, and just plain irritating.  It seems like you should make your operating system, and the software you design for it, work with, not against each other.

2.  What is the benefit of this "banner"?

• I have accidentally hit DISCONNECT more times (17 in a day is my record so far) than I have used the banner to change "projection modes" or intentionally disconnect (0 times EVER).  If people are interested in maximizing their projection for a specific use, then those people are willing go into SETTINGS and optimize those settings.  If they aren't interested, they don't need to be reminded every time they move their mouse to the top of the screen that there are "projection modes".  Or make it optional ... which leads to my next question.

3.  Why would you not include a button on the "banner" that allows users to close the feature if they do not need it?

• Other software and toolbars you have designed all have options to close, minimize, or move them.  Did someone just forget to include these options on this "banner"?

4.  Are you going to continue to ignore the numerous complaints about this feature?

5.  Or, are you going to actually do something about this catastrophe of a "banner"?

• There are a lot of your customers who are interested in a solution to this problem.
