Microsoft Edge and other Microsoft Store apps might not connect to the Internet after installing the Windows 10 October 2018 update

After installing the Windows 10 October 2018 update (version 1809), Microsoft Store apps are no longer able to connect to the Internet.  For example, Microsoft Edge is unable to connect to any websites, displaying the message, “Hmmm...can’t reach this page.”  Apps like Mail, Calendar, and News are not working properly.  And Microsoft Store says to check my connection.

Non-Store apps, such as Internet Explorer, are still able to connect to the Internet.

Microsoft is aware of an issue after installing the Windows 10 October 2018 update (version 1809) that prevents Microsoft Store apps from connecting to the Internet on devices that have disabled IPv6.  Microsoft is working on a solution that is planned to be released in a future Windows update.  In the meantime, you can resolve this problem by enabling IPv6:

  1. Open the Settingsapp and select Networking & Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
  2. Select the network adapter you're using (by clicking the appropriate link next to “Connections”) and select Properties.
  3. On the Networking tab, select the checkbox next to Internet Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).
  4. Select OK to save your changes.

If you still having issues after enabling IPv6, I suggest changing your network profile to Public.  Go to Settings, Network & Internet and click on Change connection properties.  Under Network profile, click on Public.

If that doesn’t work, run Network reset. This will reinstall your network adapters and set other networking components back to their original settings.  You might need to reinstall any VPN software or virtual switches after. Go to Settings, Network & Internet and click on Network reset.  Click on Reset now.

Microsoft Store apps stopped working after recent update

Again, that would be a symptom that could be diagnosed to refine its symptom description.  For example, it happened to Surface RT users a while ago and could clearly be shown to be a problem with the servers.  IIRC the diagnostic I found for that was in an Event log for Windows.Store

The forum message linking is messed up and uncertain at the moment (because it can't decide whether messages listed in a thread are being sorted Ascending or Descending and thus puts messages on pages other than where someone else might find them) but see if anything in here helps you find some clues about your case

So, in fact, the Event log I found then was  Applications Microsoft Windows Store-Client-UI

Does the Phone have Event logs too?

Thanks for the suggestion - during the past week I've spent about 3 hours trying to get support help.  Apparently Microsoft is now only offering consumer Windows 10 Mobile via a contractor B2X.  However, they have a gate keeper for any support contact that requires a valid EMEI, and when I type mine in, it shows as "invalid" even though it is a device purchased from Microsoft.  My issues match this thread, and may be related (the Microsoft Store apps stopped working after recent update).

Oct. (forced) update basically made the device worthless outside of phone and text.

    @ Randy

There doesn't seem to be much about that on the Mobile forums so it could be that you have a problem that you should try diagnosing

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/search/search?SearchTerm=forced+update+oct+2018&IsSuggestedTerm=false&tab=&isFilterExpanded=false&CurrentScope.ForumName=mobiledevices&CurrentScope.Filter=mdwindows-mdupdate&ContentTypeScope=#/mobiledevices/mdwindows-mdupdate//1

Why not start your own thread about it there?  Unfortunately I don't have that OS to work with but would try giving suggestions by PC analogy there if it would help.

    Good luck
