Windows 10 1809 update deleted all files from Documents!

Last night I updated to 1809, and it all went smoothly, but then I find that all my files in Documents are DELETED. Gone. Poof. This included many crucial documents and financial info. Yes, I have a backup (I think - using Windows Backup to a NAS). But this is pretty bad. Did no one in the first two rings run into this yet?

I understand (from the news) that this happens to all files in Documents that aren't synced to OneDrive. Further, the Documents folder is really an agglomeration of "Documents" from several different paths - not sure how that works, and it may or may not relate.

Just because you haven't been affected doesn't mean it's not an issue - I've not either, but it's quite clear from the number of reports of the problem that it is a genuine issue which Microsoft needs to resolve.

Not quite sure why you are "baffled" - it's quite clear from the online coverage that while a significant number of people are affected, it's by no means everybody.

Thank for your comments.  I am disable and not that skilled in computer technology and having your files/folders disappear with Microsoft/Windows Chat/Tech customer service play dumb to these issues leaves people like at such a disadvantage.  After spending many hour with there remote support seeking help and show them evidence with the results of them disconnecting  the chat process. My Office 2013 program disappeared after normal settings in WIN 10 Pro for Updates/Security (set for recommend) to keep Dell Latitude Laptop running at it's best performance/safety.  There solution is to buy the new Office software or check with your manufactory for answers.  Everyone doesn't have the money to buy new software after already buying the software they already owned with product key, but will not work after they removed it from my Laptop with there bugs in Win 10 Pro normal upgrades.  No warnings given for customers to understanding if they have checked the box to recommended setting for updates. I live below the poverty line  and just trying to pay the basic living expenses in California.

    Thanks

It isn't fixed yet. My computed updated Friday 14th of December 2018 - and I have lost all my pictures and documents. One thing I have learned over the years - take something to calm you down before any updates from Microsoft....

I am lucky - I have a new back up on an external harddisk. So I will try not to explode and use bad words

But honestly Microsoft? You really need to test your updates before forcing them down on your customers. This is not the first time an update went wrong

Fully agree! Wake up Microsoft. I turned to Apple some years ago when Microsoft had problems with OS 6, 7 8. Costly problems.

But when MS got !0 and new Office 365 package I trusted the intentions of MS even if there were problems. However, if MS not take recent problems more serious, I would consider Apple or Google. So admit and solve problems MS and keep us customers informed about progress!!!

After hours of updating to 1809 I lost most of my programs, It deleted all the files from one of my 2tb external drives. And then after letting Microsoft restore my computer (they had to because restore was gone) my boot files were gone. I then had to pull hard drive and go to another computer to fix the boot files. I am now back on desktop that was ruined by the 1809 update. But I still have an empty drive to deal with. 1200 hours of music and years of photos and documents gone. They (Microsoft) should be liable for trashing peoples computers. or at least make sure to let people stop and back up before their required updates take over.

Why cannot Microsoft admit their failures and take responsibility for their millions of customers?
