Windows 10 1809 update deleted all files from Documents!

Your reply is ridiculous of course ive looked for the files, but i can simply look at my hardrive and see the used space is much lower than it was, if they had simply moved this would not be the case, this issue happened to me 6 months  ago now, ive bought a new hard drive and swapped it so i dont have a risk of over writing the (hopefully recoverable) contents of the drive im far from angry at this point, i also build PCs and write software for a living, not to say that makes me a windows technician but is to assume i know my way around the operating system, please read the post entirely and know what the issue is before offering silly suggestions

Tested and Tried Solution: i was shown this by a Microsoft technician. 

Do this. I got all my documents. What happened was that during update 1809, the documents got saved elsewhere. Dont panic! 

You don’t need internet for this. 

Open, My Computer/File Explorer (it is a yellow folder in the taskbar or PC desktop screen) > This PC (on left hand side) > C: Disk > User > look for username you used for Microsoft eg your name > Document > your Ms Word docs are here. If not, open others eg Temp. 

Then, copy and paste Document file from ‘User’ to ‘This PC’ > Documents (on left hand side.)  I repeat copy and paste and not transfer as you may end up removing document file and saving it in the wrong place and then lose it completely!

You my find your files missing after 1809 update but your files should still be there. after update seems the correct file path is not set and still points to a temp folder. So if you find your files missing open file explorer  and right click on your Documents folder or Pictures etc and then click properties then click on Location tab and check the file path I would bet its still pointing to the Temp folder if that is the case simply replace the file path to C:\Users\Your-User-name\Documents and all your files will be there. do same for Pictures, Music etc.

Microsoft should be addressing as I see people telling others to restore pc or buy recovery software etc. I would bet all those people just needed to set the correct file path. I have fixed over half dozen pc's already with file path issues and calls keep coming in I have noticed its only with oem versions of Win10 and not Retail. Either way MS needs to address this .

On Side Note

Always keep back up copy's on a usb stick or a portable usb drive

Last night I updated to 1809, and it all went smoothly, but then I find that all my files in Documents are DELETED. Gone. Poof. This included many crucial documents and financial info. Yes, I have a backup (I think - using Windows Backup to a NAS). But this is pretty bad. Did no one in the first two rings run into this yet?

I understand (from the news) that this happens to all files in Documents that aren't synced to OneDrive. Further, the Documents folder is really an agglomeration of "Documents" from several different paths - not sure how that works, and it may or may not relate.

I allowed the automatic 1809 update to go through on Oct 3 afternoon. When I did the restart I noticed all my missing data. I have a ticket with MS Level 3 but they have never contacted me. Level 1 continues to insist that allowing my computer to run will not overlay files but I doubt their thinking. I went to Geek Squad and I downloaded Active@ and we ran File Recovery. We could get some files but not those with unusual extensions such as .T17 (HR Block tax data) or .mny (MS Money). At this moment running the Last Chance option to see if it can find more data. Im in shock.
