One of my desktops, and one of my laptops, stayed intact. Another of my laptops lost all of the document files.
All three of these computers were using Windows 10, and we're updated at approximately the same time plus or minus a few hours.

I have just updated my windows using the October update (10, version 1809) it deleted all my files of 23 years in amount of 220gb. This is unbelievable, I have been using Microsoft products since 1995 and nothing like that ever happened to me.
Files were located at C:/Users/rober/Documents/
This location is still present, with no files. All of files deleted.
I am extremely upset. Not sure what to do….please let me know.

Seriously, in all these years you never thought once to have a backup plan for your 220GB of data?
SMH.
Edit: I see you've had backups up to two months ago. Even still, given the technology available today, if the work you've been doing over the last two months was all that important, the onus is on you to use any one of the myriad of online, offsite backup tools available to make sure your data is safe.
I just got updated to windows 10 1809 October 2018 I lost my files *C:\Users\KeerthiKiran*
What to do???
I was not aware of this **** Windows 10 1809 Bug .Microsoft have no Idea what they make...
...THE WORST WINDOWS BUILD EVER- WINDOWS 10...
FOUND THE SOLUTION !
Hey Ziko,
I had the exact same problem and freaked out. I saw your article on zdnet to see If you guys found any solution. I found a solution after couple workarounds. Go into your one drive website and go to recycle bin. All of my files were there, yours should hopefully be there too.
Let me know if it helps
The only way that the Upgrade could delete all of anyone's files would be if they downloaded it as a "clean install" instead of just allowing the Upgrade to proceed normally.
That would be (rightly) considered "user error" and is not Microsoft's responsibility.
The Upgrade/Update does not delete files.
Period.
This is not right. I did the update via the automatic update process and all of my photos in the pictures folder are gone.
