windows 10 (October 2018 update) (version 1809) deleted all my files

I have just updated my windows using the October update (10, version 1809) it deleted all my files of 23 years in amount of 220gb. This is unbelievable, I have been using Microsoft products since 1995 and nothing like that ever happened to me.

Files were located at C:/Users/rober/Documents/

This location is still present, with no files. All of files deleted.

I am extremely upset. Not sure what to do….please let me know.

    Actually, no - OneDrive is disabled for this computer, so there is no OneDrive Recycle bin.

    I store all files locally, and backup locally with portable drives or thumb-drives.

    I prefer my data not be spread all over the internet, for security concerns.

    I did just enable it, to see what would come up, but I don't expect that to resolve my lost files.

    Are you planning stop the update to fix it the 1809 update or you do not nothing to fix that problem?

    That is what PATCH TUESDAYS are for. October 9 is the upcoming patch Tuesday.

    Though MS might release other patch updates after patch Tuesday like last month

    I don't know what you'll find in it, but you've got to have a OneDrive Recycle Bin...

    (1) Right-click the OneDrive icon in the Tray, (& perhaps wait a tad for it to react).

    (2) Click "View online".

    (3) Click Recycle Bin in the left pane of the WEB site that opens.

    thanks, kjl1956. this may very well be a viable option to recover some, or maybe even all (though doubtful) of the files.

    The REAL issue, though, is WHY IS MICROSOFT deleting my personal data?!?!

    Iirc after each update I'm sure onedrive restarted after I had perviously disabled it. 

    Still not totally clear whether its a onedrive sync issue but it seems like you are ok with the update if you have onedrive disabled. And you will be ok if you dont sync.

    Have people disabled onedrive before updating and been fine?
