I have just updated my windows using the October update (10, version 1809) it deleted all my files of 23 years in amount of 220gb. This is unbelievable, I have been using Microsoft products since 1995 and nothing like that ever happened to me.

Files were located at C:/Users/rober/Documents/

This location is still present, with no files. All of files deleted.

I am extremely upset. Not sure what to do….please let me know.

Robert

In all of those 23 years, NOT EVEN  ONCE did you consider to make a backup?

How long would it have taken you to copy those 220gbs onto an external drive.

    A trifle!

Hope in the upcoming 23 years you may gain a bit more common sense,

and will check back with you after that time.

Um - Sorry Jenny - I did allow the upgrade to proceed normally. Seemed OK at first (Chrome works, Outlook has a hiccough) but then Quicken fails utterly. A deep search of C: reveals no .PST or .QDF files exist - only hanging shortcuts. All gone. Lots of noise about this on the forums and in the press.

UPDATE: Version 1809 pulled from Media Creation Tool as of 9:52 PM PST Friday. I think it might be due to this issue since we've heard nothing on it from Microsoft yet.

Thank you, Greg, for trying to help us track down the exact scenarios this is happening, and for keeping us updated on the status from Microsoft. Now that it has been pulled from the Media Creation Tool website, we can wait for them to address this problem. I just hope that they have a better idea of what happened and why some users were affected and others were not.

Has Microsoft issued any public statements yet, that you have found?

    Thanks,
