Fully agree 'Davey-Delliott' with your sentiments of 'people continue to just repost the OP's post with no additional comments at all' if you have these problems contact Microsoft in your local area! Its unfortunate and 'part of the course' but, you should always have a backup of your system, this is a very easy thing to do especially with 'Macrium Reflect v7) that can take a complete backup of your OP system that you can restore! This is a solutions that I have for the people that have lost files! I have never ever had problems with 1803, 1809 and all updates have installed perfectly (this is with an 8 year old laptop) no loss of files or any glitches at all, as a matter of a fact (I've been using MS Windows since the mid 80's) and there have been some doozies with MS Windows since then! MS Windows 10 has been the most stable, reliable and efficient OP system that I've ever used and/or has been around!

2018-10-12T00:50:06+00:00 Today both laptops in my household are now without audio. They are not linked in any way EXCEPT that they both had that automatic Win10 update. It's totally the fault of the update, so don't let them tell you otherwise, this is not a coincidence. I'll call Microsoft for a fix, and they better have a means to fix this. If I'm forced to accept updates, then they should be tried and true, not cobbled programs that are hinky to start with.
Anyway, I'll bet that there are more of us out there in Windows10 update land...

2018-10-12T01:05:06+00:00 'GodithWeldon' get this through your head "ITS NOT THE 1809 UPDATE" that is causing this!!! As it hasn't happened to many many people and that includes me, just do this > uninstall your previous driver and reboot then, update your driver with the latest driver (whatever that is for you? Realtek HD etc, etc) as Audio drivers are not affected by the 1809 update as they are most likely affected by your individual driver that wasn't or hasn't been updated probably for a while, full stop!

Is it not possible for a feature update to cause issues for a relatively small proportion of the user base? Is that really what you're saying so emphatically?

2018-10-12T17:33:33+00:00 May I suggest all read the post in the blog at home page of this article for an update before replying with more speculative suggestions as to cause. URL is https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2018/10/09/updated-version-of-windows-10-october-2018-update-released-to-windows-insiders/
I read it as MS have identified issues effecting limited number of users and pre-released fixes for Insiders to test. Specifically it says users who had AFR enabled were effected.
Again apologies if someone else has said this but I'm not trawling through all the posts including the "OP repeat" ones - just read the last 10 or so. Unfortunately my device registered with Insider has a dead battery!
I just checked on my 3rd device - it's bringing down 2018-10 cumulative for 1803 so MS are still servicing the last feature version.
And like another poster said, would like us all to limit this thread to just techie info on what is actually happening so a) no OP reposts and b) no direct complaints against MS - this is not their channel for it so you won't get official answers (those are country dependant) That way, we can more easily read any techie updates! Just a suggestion, but thanks.
