Are you absolutely sure it was the October Feature update, that is paused and the Media Creation tool page is for the April Feature update.

Are you able to use system restore from the recovery menu.

It's possible that the October update downloaded before it was withdrawn, but didn't install until the computer was restarted.

I’m 100% sure it said something similar to ”Windows 10 update 1809” but I can’t check the exact wording since it won’t boot now. I haven’t tried system restore yet but I guess I will have to.

One thing is sure, I will never turn on automatic updates again.

I don't know about anybody else, but I can't quite get my head around why people continue to just repost the OP's post with no additional comments at all.

Yes - I can confirm that MS are still doing normal monthly updates - even though the feature update for 1809 was suspended.  There are just too many posts on hear to read so sorry if I missed anything. Yesterday, I got the normal load of monthly updates via Windows Update (MSRT, Adobe and a CUMULATIVE update for guess what!  1809!!) See the new ScreenSnip (WIN+Sft+S) clip below.  Still no lost files but I do believe in backups so am now running with 2 USB sticks and an external 1 TB HDD using both File History, N360 and good old DIY copies!

I'm awaiting confirmation from MS before upgrading my newer netbook though.
