Windows 10 audio stops working after installing Intel Smart Sound Technology driver (version 09.21.00.3755)

Earlier this week, Intel unintentionally released version 9.21.00.3755 of the Intel Smart Sound Technology (ISST) Driver through Windows Update, and inadvertently offered it to a range of devices running Window 10 version 1803 or 1809. If your device contained
a compatible audio driver, the new driver overrode it and caused audio to stop working.

We are working with Intel to resolve this issue, and as soon as we learned of the issue on October 11, we made sure the driver was no longer being offered through Windows Update. If it was already installed on your device, you will need to uninstall the
driver using the following instructions.

From the Start menu, type Device Manager
in the search box. I have been unable to resolve my audio problems and there are other problems since this update. I am seriously frustrated and have already been to a technician and paid for this and still have issues. The amount of time I have lost is no joke and I need audio for Skype conference calls with clients. I am disgusted by the lack of action and support from Microsoft on this one. The problems are very widespread and causing significant problems, especially for those of us who work remotely so I think Microsoft needs to step up and acknowledge accountability and provide something tangible to its customers.

The lack of details you provide (at least in this post) doesn't allow anyone to even attempt to assist you with your specific problem. It's broke and I'm mad I understand.

What did the paid technician attempt do that did not work?

What version of Skype are you running?

Starting November 1st older versions of Skype are being shutdown by Microsoft?

If the problem is an audio driver the usual fix is to totally uninstall the failing driver and install a working audio driver from you computer manufacturers web site.

What other problems are you having?

What is the make and model of your computer?

If your audio support can not be restored for the internal chipset have you considered purchasing a $6 external USB audio adapter and use that as a temp work around?

I am not an employee of Microsoft, just another end user, but one who is retired after 40 years, has worked in the industry since punch cards and paper tape were used for storage, and offers local IT Consulting services in my corner of the planet.
