Uninstall Your Phone Companion App

Hi,

Regrettably, I am less than underwhelmed by the new Phone Companion App that came with the latest Windows 10 update.

Having said that, how do I uninstall Microsoft Phone Companion?  When I try from the Apps menu, I have to go to Advanced Options, which brings to Your Phone Companion App; I try clicking on the TERMINATE button, but nothing happens -- and apparently, the App is running in the background so I can't uninstall

Would appreciate some advise on this one as well

Hi Rsnic

Right click your Start Button, choose Powershell (admin)

Paste this command into Powershell and hit Enter

Get-AppxPackage *windowsphone* | Remove-AppxPackage

When that command completes, close Powershell

That's It!

You cannot uninstall it. That is a system app.

Just stop it working in the background and forget.

    I ran that command and nothing happened, it just went straight back to the prompt, presumably because I had run it previously but with the -AllUsers flag.

    If I open file location it opens in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.YourPhone_1.20041.88.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe. So why, when I've completely disabled this Microsoft app and removed it, somehow it's still there and still able to launch???

    Clearly your advice has not worked. I should point out that I did run as administrator and if I check Settings > Apps and also Settings > Privacy  > Background Apps YourPhone doesn't appear in either.

    The background:  I've been through all sorts on this. Intermittently I get an issue with my cursor moving to a couple of specific places on my primary display, one just above the Search box on the task bar and the other just above the up arrow for opening the system tray. I've spent hours trying to diagnose/resolve this as it creates RSI having to keep moving the mouse back to where I want it to be. It happens a ton on sign in while apps load so I just leave it for a couple of minutes. But it also does it during normal usage. Whenever it does that, I check and Skype or YourPhone was running in background. I use Skype very infrequently for international calling so don't want to remove it completely but do want it to not be running in the background so I disabled it yet from time to time it still seems to crop up as a process called Microsoft Skype rather than just Skype - and this happens even when I've not run it since a reboot.

    I never wanted YourPhone anyway so first off I went through Settings > Privacy > Background Apps to turn it off but every now and then I'd notice it was still showing in Task Manager. So I removed the YourPhone app using Powershell with the -AllUsers option so it's theoretically gone for all accounts on my machine and if I try to run the command again it tells me the package is gone. If I look in Settings > Apps it doesn't show and in Settings > Privacy > Background Apps it doesn't show there either. But a short while ago I noticed it still showing in Task Manager. I tried getting in to C:\Program Files\WindowsApps to see if it's still there but of course, even as administrator, I can't get in there due to lack of permissions.

    Microsoft, what the hell is going on here??? How can a process I've removed completely still be there? Is there something you're not telling us???
