I see the same problem on both of my Windows computers after updating from 1803 to 1809.  One machine uses a directly connected USB drive, the other backs up over the network to a NAS drive, but the failure is the same on each.  It's clearly just a bug and one that needs to be fixed ASAP.  It seems like 1809 shipped with a bunch of issues ... there was a Cumulative Update today (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4464330/windows-10-update-kb4464330), but this issue was not addressed in it.

I bugged this on Feedback Hub ... I encourage everyone affected by this bug to do the same.

This IS a problem with OneDrive, Files On Demand**,**Uncheck this option.

W.BU cannot BU a cloud file, this is where the error is, there is a fix but only on the server side.

This has been thoroughly discussed at Microsoft Technet, MS is aware of this problem and has yet to deal with it. MS is aware of the problem, they Choose NOT to do anything about it for now, should OneDrive prove to be unreliable or unused by clients.

W7 BU was 'Revived' for W10 (Removed for W8/8.1), they will NOT get rid of it again, they will just leave it alone for now.

You do not need another client for doing BU's as everyone is blindly repeating.

    Hi Vincente,

I too dug-in deeper, checked/reset permissions, reset folder and file attributes, retried with the same error message resulting. I then checked the folders and files (my setup is a once per-week auto-update) and the date stamps matched the schedule). I then mounted the image as a virtual drive and manually checked a number of files saved since the date of the feature update to v.1809 (10/02/18) and all were present, accurate, and complete in their entirety.

It would then seem, to me, that the error is in the issuing of the error message in and of itself? Time will tell, I'll continue to check with each consecutive backup image accordingly (I guess I'll have a weekly reminder by notification, Ha).

I'll continue to monitor this thread and will update with any new info that I might acquire in the interim. Perhaps the error will be resolved with a future cumulative update to v.1809 in the near future.

    Cheers,

    -Richard

It is still not working on windows 10 17763.55

The option to back up is still shown; therefor let us hope this fault gets repaired soon.
