Windows 10 Bluetooth to LG Soundbar not working

Windows 10 PC will no longer connect to my LG Soundbar via bluetooth. They pair okay, but the LG speaker does not show up in the list of available speaker output devices.

I have tried removing the LG bluetooth device and then reconnecting to it, but it made no difference.

Other audio source devices, eg, ipod, connect, and work correctly with the LG soundbar via Bluetooth.

Has something changed in Windows that is now stopping this connection working? It stopped working about 3 months ago I think.

Any ideas

Thanks

Paul

Remove the device. Open Command Prompt as admin.

Run this command :

reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Bluetooth\Audio\AVRCP\CT /v DisableAbsoluteVolume /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Add the device again and now you can play.

Have fun! :)

Solution from Arcolion 20 Nov 2020

"Remove the device. Open Command Prompt as admin.

reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Bluetooth\Audio\AVRCP\CT /v DisableAbsoluteVolume /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Worked for me on 2 Windows 10 laptops and an LG Micro (2010!). Had to reboot after the registry edit and had to reset advnaced sound properties in Windows Sounds on one of them (It would play Youtube ads through Bluletooth but the videos would revert to Windows speakers. All working fine now

I found the solution for my LG HTS here thanks to the user who shared it at the end of the link.

https://superuser.com/questions/1310342/connected-bluetooth-headphones-dont-appear-as-playback-device-in-windows-10

he mentions windows has already released a solution again at the end of the link:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-hk/help/14169/windows-10-fix-bluetooth-problems

follow the instructions here to disable the absolute volume function for headphones in the registry.

hope it helps. it was very annoying not being able to use it.

So, I had the same issue with LG SJ9. I read all the comments here and what worked for me was to connect the soundbar to the wifi and update its firmware using the music flow app on my phone. worked like a charm. Thanks!

Hi Paul. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

If you'd asked when this first started we could have helped you isolate the Windows Update or Version update that caused it and hide or workaround it. But unless you still have a System Restore point going back that far, or remember the date so you can check Installed Updates in Settings, we'll have to try another approach.

    Bluetooth Troubleshooting Steps:

Try the Bluetooth troubleshooter at Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

Try turning off Fast Startup at Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional Power Settings > Choose what Power buttons do > Change settings that are unavailable > uncheck Fast Startup.

Try Updating the Bluetooth driver from the PC maker's Support Downloads webpage for your exact model. Install it even if it's the same or newer than the one in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button.

Right click Start button to access Device Manager, locate Bluetooth device (if necessary from View tab Show Hidden Devices), on Driver tab see if Roll Back is available, if not try Update Driver, first automatically, then Browse, then Let Me Pick to try all previously installed Drivers.

If these fail try to Uninstall the Driver, restart PC to reinstall.

Then try pairing again, if necessary run the Bluetooth Troubleshooter again.

    Sound Problems Troubleshooting Steps:

Update the sound driver from the PC maker's Support Downloads webpage for your exact model, if it is newer than the one presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. While there compare to make sure you also have the latest BIOS, Chipset, Display, Network and all other drivers.

Right click the volume icon in System Tray at right end of task bar, to Troubleshoot Problems.

Run the Playing Sound troubleshooter at Start button > Settings>Update & Security>Troubleshoot.

Try rolling back the sound driver in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Choose Sound controller device, then Driver tab, then Roll back if available.

While there make sure you also have the latest Chipset, Display, Network, USB and all other drivers, comparing with the version presently installed in Device Manager.

If no newer driver then uninstall the one presently installed in Device Manager, reached by right clicking the Start Button. Restart PC to reinstall.

Try other and older drivers for your model Sound controller, too. For example, try the next oldest driver in the model's online Support Downloads list. To try all previous drivers installed on your system, in Device Manager choose Sound controller's Driver tab, then Update Driver, then Browse, then Let Me Pick.

When did this behavior begin? If you have an idea you might be able to System Restore back to a point before it began: http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t...

If this was caused by Windows Updates then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Installed Updates, then uninstall them from the link there, and hide with the Hide Updates tool downloaded from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

Go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

If nothing else helps then run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This solves many problems and will also bring it up to the latest version which you need anyway and by the most stable method. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

But remember that in Windows 10 everything depends upon the quality of the install, and Factory or Upgrade installs are inferior installs which most enthusiasts won't even run because they'd expect endless issues. Consider now or later doing the Clean Install in this link which compiles the best possible install that will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

There is also an automated Fresh Start that reinstalls WIndows while shedding corrupting factory bloatware, saves your files, but doesn't clear the drive to get it cleanest: https://www.howtogeek.com/265054/how-to-easily-...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
