My epson perfection v700 scanner (that allows me to scan photos, negatives, documents, etc.) and that I paid over $800 for) stopped working with teh latest update two days ago. I've downloaded a new driver and other software from Epson and it doesn't work. Can I uninstall this update? I like my scanner a whole lot more than I like Windows.

Thanks for reminding me to run as administrator. This Epson Scan saga has been going for a year now (since 1803 update) and there does not appear to be any progress by Epson or Microsoft on resolving the problems that we are suffering. Some scanners seem to allow Epson Scan to work when set as Administrator, some need WIN XP compatibility (mine) and there are other various "bandaids" employed. Suffice to say that both Epson and Microsoft need a swift kick in the backside as they are either arrogant or incompetent.

    "arrogant or incompetent"

Concerning MS, they seem to be both, and it isn't recent. I recall an incident from the days of the dreaded V*sta, where directory renaming (or something similar) was not available to some users. MS replied that this was totally unimportant because only about 1% of users were affected. They then withdrew their forums from usenet and we had less fun.

I guess Epson are just too mean or lazy to have retained their software developers. The user interface hasn't changed, at least in appearance, for a couple of decades. That didn't matter if you had the time and patience to discover how it works, and it did have (or used to have) better functionality than rival ordinary office scanners. I suppose it will take Epson a year or two to recruit a team or - having worked in another high tech industry, I can imagine it happening - subcontract the work to a bunch or amateurs who don't know anything about optics and imaging.

I had the same issue, Microsoft 10 programs would pop out after having installed Epson V600. I took advice online:

    1. Go To Epson download latest download fix. Run it.
    2. Go to Start, click on Settings, click on Aps...uninstall...
    3. Uninstall the program Abby Fine Reader.
    4. Restart the computer.

    All is well!   Cheers

Sorry, we have had too many such fixes for too many years.

We are discussing the supplier of a desktop OS that remains World n° 1 despite the authoritarianism and crapware it comes with, together what is supposed to be a major supplier of peripherals designed for domestic and industrial users. Together, they have been incapable of providing a hardware-software combination that works "out of the box" to the standard of performance we should by now be allowed to expect. Let's hope this is one much hoped-for sign of a rapid disintegration of that inefficient, intrusive and disrespectful business model.

Just so that others don't waste their time as I have just done ...

In a naive moment I checked whether the much-trumpeted latest upgrade to Windows 10 version 1903 includes a fix to our long-standing frustration getting Epson scanners to work as they used to before.

Ha ha ha. No such luck.

Deep in the vaults of corporate HQ in Redmond I see a bunch of Microsofters celebrating their delight in taking us unfortunate customers for a ride.
