My epson perfection v700 scanner (that allows me to scan photos, negatives, documents, etc.) and that I paid over $800 for) stopped working with teh latest update two days ago. I've downloaded a new driver and other software from Epson and it doesn't work. Can I uninstall this update? I like my scanner a whole lot more than I like Windows.

LorettaPolley1, It all depends on HOW and WHY your scanner is not working and what operating system (OS) you have on your computer. If your scanner is not working at all, my answer above will not help you. I was trying to explain what scanner I have, what OS I have, and that the scanner is ok and working with Windows scanner software, but that the EPSON SCAN software was not working correctly for me. The EPSON SCAN software now appears to be working correctly in the configuration that I have.

Your Epson Perfection V370 scanner is a flat-bed scanner and therefore is quite different to my multi-function printer/scanner. However, if it is the EPSON SCAN software that is not working for you, some parts of my answer above may be relevant to you.

If you give a little more information, I or someone else viewing this forum may be able to help you.

I have been investing dozens of hours into trying to get Epson Scan working properly on Win 10 since the 1803 update. My multi-function printer is an XP-410 and the printer and scanner work fine, but the Epson Scan software (until the 1803) offers all the functions that I want. However, today I decided to have another shot at correcting the various glitches that prevented the full use of Epson Scan. The main problems were that the folder for storing scans could only be changed by modifying the Registry (rather inconvenient) and the Preview window disappeared off-screen. I have two almost identical laptop PCs so by applying the same fixes to each, namely run in Administrator mode and XP compatibility seemed to fix all but the change-folder function and an occasional crash.

Today I uninstalled all the Epson software and reinstalled on the first PC from www.tech.epson.com.au (I'm in Australia) and noted that there is now a patch for 1803 dated July 2018 in the Win 10 64bit downloads. I have not looked for some time and I don't believe that I've ever found this particular website previously. Anyway, I installed the software I needed and got the Epson Scan working...so far. On tackling the second PC in a similar manner but using the recommended online install it failed to eliminate the issues. Uninstall again and reinstall by individual downloads, the change-folder problem was cured, but the preview window could not be seen. After comparing the Registries of both PCs, particularly: HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software|EPSON|EPSON Scan|ES00E9|Environment

    • a number of Data values were different or missing from the 2nd PC.

I edited the values of the 2nd PC to be the same as the 1st PC and everything seems to work ok on both...so far.

I'l do some intensive scanning over the next weeks to see what transpires.

The most significant difference seems to me to be a change from a 32 bit version to a 64 bit version in the uninstall/reinstall. Oh, and I changed the compatibility from XP to Win 8 (no 10 available), but retained the Run as Administrator.

    I hope this helps somebody.

    P.S. I'm on the 1909 Win 10 version.

Wel I spent the day playing with Microsoft today 3 techies and8 hours later I am deeper in trouble and problem is not fixed, and that is to update from win 10 release 1803 to win 10 release 1909 that "MAY" fix the problem.

Although 2 of the 3 techies knew what they were doing and one was a pure powerhouse they could not even deal with the failed upgrades with error code 0x800700a1 !- AND we didn't even get to the missing wf-4740 drivers for windows?

The final solution of the day was, reset windows, LOSE all apps, maybe re-install the os and MAYBE just MAYBE your Epson wf-4740 printer will work.

This is insane.  4 days and counting to get an apparent PNP printer to work on windows 10?
